Today, Skye Schweit, a United States Marine Corps Veteran and the PFC Dwyer Program lead for our Albany County Veterans Service Bureau, joined dozens of Albany County Veterans at Western Turnpike Golf Course for their first PGA HOPE gathering. PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is a free program that introduces Veterans and active-duty service members to golf while supporting physical, mental, social and emotional wellness. This is the kind of programming that matters. It brings Veterans together, builds community, and creates another positive outlet for those who served. I’m proud of Skye and our Veterans Service Bureau for continuing to connect Albany County Veterans with meaningful opportunities like this.

This morning, I was joined by CEO and President of HISI Nanette Poserina to highlight that over the last 5 years since HISI partnered with Albany County, we have saved over $35 million in prescription drug benefits for employees without sacrificing service. HISI has now partnered with Albany County on employee medical benefits and since February 1st and projects a savings through the end of this year of $13 million for that. At a time of uncertainty for federal and state funding of programs, and the simple fact that healthcare and prescription medications are not getting any cheaper, these types of savings are a great relief for taxpayers.
