Last week I ligged into the very buzzy PV of Horror Show. Some exceptional exhibits and 2 extraordinary rooms but I must admit not understanding the thematic narrative of the show at all. There again, I don’t know much about horror. A bit pricey, may try to sneak in again to reappraise.
My teenage enthusiasm for all most things Glyn Philpot was fully vindicated in this soon to close exhibition. Classicism, surrealism, a smidge of neue sachlichkeit. All leavened by a unique, queer catholic sensibility that adored & appreciated black men unlike any contemporary. He makes your heart full.
One of those evenings where your having a glamorous evening but still end up missing performances from Wombling Mike Batt AND Dana Gillespie. Still brilliant Times music editor Will Hodgkinson’s book launch and old pal Ann Carrington’s work at David Linley’s showroom were top rank vibrant.
