I’m a big believer in collaborative brands. That wasn’t always the case.
When I was coming up as a designer, there was this unbreakable law that WE do the design and the client takes this perfect, locked up little thing and it’s sacred and immutable and if you wanna play with the brand color? Don’t you dare.
But that never sat right with me.
At @counterweight.studio I always tell people we’re not a vending machine. Your brand is not this pre made cookie cutter predestined thing picked from the back shelves where it just plug in a number, insert some cash, and wait.
It’s your brand. It’s you. And it’s our job - the job of any brand designer worth their weight 🏋️♂️ - to bring that to life. And then we hand it over.
My favorite part of a strong brand is seeing the client make it their own. And boy, has @departmentdenver done just that.
Gonna be better about sharing what we actually do at my design studio…and if not, I do a much better job sharing on LinkedIn (if you can look past the cringe 😅)
