For various reasons, this was the most condensed Nation ever for me – apart from the pandemic edition with livestream only. I arrived Sunday at 1 p.m. and was already on my way home by 10 p.m. And yet, from the very first moment, it completely swept me up again. It feels like a seamless continuation – like someone just hit pause for a moment, and now we’re picking up exactly where we left off last year.
A huge thank-you to the entire crew who make this experience possible year after year.
The sometimes very lengthy power outages were obviously annoying. By the third one at the latest, there was a steady stream of people migrating from the lake stage over to Birke, where the bass was still pumping. Totally understandable – and it made me appreciate even more all those who stayed.
During the second outage, I briefly suspected my recording device might be the culprit, since it wouldn’t run on power banks and only started with the 65-watt power adapter. And of course, the outage hit exactly at the drop, which gave the whole thing a slapstick vibe.
By the third time, I’d long since unplugged the device, but the power still went out. I didn’t find out the exact cause that evening, but apparently everything was running off a generator from a certain point onward. We can really count ourselves lucky it held out until the end.
That they even added 30 extra minutes to the set times at Wiese and Strand – even though the teams were clearly at their limit – was absolute cinema.
Thank you to everyone who carried on, pushed through, sweated it out, saved the moment, and lit the spark.
Little side note: Nation will already kick off on Thursday next year.
