While the whole industry was gathering at In-Cosmetics Barcelona, I was visiting Madagascar.
I flew from the capital city Antananarivo to the beautiful island of Nosy be where plantations of Cananga odorata commonly called Ylang Ylang are all over the island.
Although this plant is native to Pacific Islands, Madagascar and especially Nosy be island is one of the main producers and exporters of Ylang Ylang essential oil with producing around 60 tons a year.
This highly priced essential oil with unique olfactory qualities is widely used in perfumery and in aromatherapy but also in the food industry.
It was amazing to visit a working distillery and understand the process behind creating this essential oil.
