Happy 50th to one of the most influential people in my life, my sweet Angel Baby, Ryan. We met on October 7, 2009—I still have the calendar invite in my Hotmail. I applied for a position he was hiring for, but I wasn’t even considered, and Ryan still took an informational meeting with me. That meeting led to my first real job in New York, working as a PA on his show “When I Was 17.” I ended up leaving for another opportunity (Ryan was pissed), but a couple years later, we reunited at MTV News. We worked on after shows, development projects, VMAs, Movie Awards—and even did an Ice Bucket Challenge! At first, I tried to keep professional boundaries—he was the SVP, and I was just a Segment Producer—but Ryan has this way of drawing people in. Slowly, we went from colleagues to friends, and my life has been better for it ever since. When I transferred to MTV’s LA office six years ago, we weren’t working together anymore, but thankfully, Ryan had just relocated too. He made the transition so much easier. During the pandemic, he became my daily hiking partner, where we’d talk about everything and nothing. Even when I was venting or spiraling, Ryan could find the one nugget of sense in my rambling and make me feel, as he’d say, “very astute.” We’ve made so many memories over the years, from Fire Island summers to going to any and every concert (thanks, Live Nation). And just this past weekend, we celebrated his 50th in Puerto Vallarta, where (of course) the hottest guy at the pool hit on him and guessed he was 40. Ryan, you’ve built such a beautiful life with Adam and Miles, and I’m so lucky to have you in mine. Cheers to 50 amazing years and so many more to come. Love you!
