Just a bit of lighting design for a jazzy cover of Golden from Kpop Demon Hunters, performed by the lovely USAF Band of the Golden West! This group had a place in my heart before I ever knew them, as a friend of mine performed with them decades ago.
Super fun time with this one, and I think the next one will be even better! Got to pull out my Pennywise for a newly revived Youtube series, and you'll recognize my next character too....
Some good news to make the page lighter! Tempest, our youngest guinea pig, came home last night from her mass removal surgery! It ended up being more intensive than had been planned, and shes on a lot of medication, but the surgery was as successful as could possibly be hoped, came in under budget, and shes already got more of her spunk back than is probably good for keeping her sutures closed. She is having supervised visits with Cece and Penelope a couple times a day for her mental health and to remind her to eat. (Picture taken before surgery, she is the calico on the bottom)
While I had no intention of making this an in memoriam page, I would be remiss not to share that we had to say goodbye to our lovely old man Lancelot late last night, after a day long battle with colec took his faculties from him. He spent his life full of love, and was among the better teachers I have ever known human and animal alike. He helped many a person learn how to work with his majestic species, both on the ground and on the trail, myself very much included. He knew how to guide and push new riders and experienced equestrians alike and I wouldn't have had the luck with my equestrian pursuits I had without him. He was my first real equine teacher, and taught me from groundwork all the way through bareback onstacles. As the lead instructor at red velvet ranch, he embodied the magic that every horse girl and cowboy alike sees in the world, and set the tone for everyone else human and animal alike, and the herd will not be the same without its sage leader. He was a talented competitor, a thoughtful soul, and spent his partial retirement staying ready for the lessons that still came his way, and enjoying the presence of his best friend Griffin, his girlfriend jasmine, and his two young followers Dorito and Bahir. He was an excellent riding pair for Ceci as well, and kept the steadiness that she needs to ground her on trail. I wasn't there for his last day, but the rest of his family was by his side, giving him comfort, treats, and a final taste of his own sure feet. Ride well, Lance, you made a difference in the world, and you will never be forgotten.
It is with a heavy heart that I let those who don't know yet that our dear Luna passed away at 3:22 A.M. on Monday, February the 16th, just over 5 years after we brought her home. She was born in november of 2020, and was a special gift from the moon for me and her big sister, who had just lost her own birth sister to juvinile epilepsy and needed a friend. Her disease was treatable, but a series of well intentioned decisions by ourselves and her truly amazing medical team, including a misdiagnosis on each of our parts, let her infection progress too far to stop. Thanks to her team, Cece and ourselves both had a little more time to spend together, and she fought to make it long enough for Elena, Cece, and myself to all be together with her one more time before she let herself move on (after several individual and pair visits over the preceding days). I will never regret the life we got to enjoy together, but I will forever think about the things that could have gone just a little different, and about the years she earned and never got to spend. Her life was one of love, and she was the reason we took a shot on Penelope and Tempest, who are keeping Cece company in their own ways as we all learn the new shape of things. I'll miss you, my little pancake. Thank you for letting me be your parent.

Anyway, meet Marshmallow and Lemondrop. Marshmallow is our free spirit, loves people, being held, and having a chance to explore! The little gremlin is chewing on my watch as I type this, which is a fair representation of the chaos he brings. He was adopted as a companion for Lemondrop, who was a rescue after he survived a cat attack that sadly took his family. He may not be able to fly, at least for now, and doesn't want to be held, but he is a beautiful singer, and spends much of his time admiring the pretty bird in the mirror. He has learned three songs from us so far, in the month and a half we've had him, and I know he'll continue to learn.

Mid season teaser photos for Harrowing of Hell. If you are looking for a spooky season scare in LA, you won't find anything more immersive than Delusion! I've been so bad getting environmental photos, or anything with other people, so that's my new mission for the rest of the season.
And introducing a new member of the family! Lemondrop is a rescue who needed a home after an outdoor cat found his aviary. It will be some time for them to fly again, but I have such faith in the journey he is going to have with us!
