A little different from my usual photography… swans and cygnets at Swanpool near Falmouth.
I’ll be honest, I’m not a wildlife photographer, but it was amazing to watch these little ones out on the water with their parents, so I’ve done the best I could with the moment.
These were shot with my 100-400mm lens so I could keep a respectful distance and not disturb them. I’ve cropped the images in tighter afterwards, which makes it look like I was closer than I actually was, but I wanted to give them plenty of space.
A lovely thing to witness.

A little bluebell carousel from Treslothan Woods 🌿💙
The bluebells this year seem to be out in far greater numbers than I remember from previous years. I’m not sure why that is, but I’m definitely appreciating it.
At the moment it feels like every turn in the path reveals another patch of blue, another mossy trunk, or another little pocket of woodland that just begs to be photographed.
Spring doing spring things… and doing them rather well.

Two years ago tonight, on May 10th/11th 2024, the skies over Cornwall went absolutely mad.
I was out at Botallack after shooting sunset when the aurora started kicking off, and I can honestly say I’d never seen anything like it. Pink, purple and green light pouring across the sky above the mine buildings… completely unreal.
To be honest, I think I was the one having the meltdown. It was one of those rare moments where excitement, disbelief and emotion all hit at once, and I was trying to photograph it while my brain more or less packed up.
Still one of the best photography experiences I’ve ever had.

Back to a familiar view… Bosigran Cliffs looking out towards Pendeen Lighthouse.
I shot this while meeting up with my friend and fellow photographer @simonshortphotography while he was down this way for a few days. It was properly windy while I shot this, and although there was more cloud around this time, there still wasn’t enough of the right kind to really hold the light after sunset. So that glow off to the right was about all it had to offer.
Still, I like the quieter feel of this one — the cliffs catching the last of the light, the sea softening below, and the coastline leading the eye away into the distance.

A quieter coastal image from Dollar Cove near the Lizard, shot while filming a recent video.
I really like this location when the tide is falling or already out, because it reveals some brilliant rock formations, textures and patterns in the sand. That’s what drew me to this frame — dark rocks, soft water, subtle light, and just enough simplicity to let it all breathe.

A moodier take on Godrevy Lighthouse.
I loved the way the light was falling here — one patch of brightness across the island and lighthouse, surrounded by darker rocks, sea and sky. Add in a long exposure and it all came together nicely.
This was also an image I shot for one of my recent video's.

Another sunset, another appearance from that cloud bank that seems to turn up just in time to ruin the big finish.
Still, I can’t complain too much with this. The sun dropped nicely behind Pendeen Lighthouse, and the alignment with the lantern made the shot worth it even if the sky never fully kicked off.
A very Cornish sort of sunset really — almost spoiled, but not quite.

A few bluebell images from Treslothan Woods.
The damage from Storm Goretti has really left its mark here, and parts of the woodland are almost unrecognisable now with so many trees down. Even knowing the location well, I found myself having to work much harder to find compositions that still felt right.
But that’s probably no bad thing. It’s made me slow down, look harder, and find new ways to show the beauty that’s still here among the damage.
And with the bluebells out, there’s still plenty of that.

A few images from Trevithick Day in Camborne on Saturday.
Always amazing to see these traction engines rolling through town, especially passing Trevithick’s statue outside Camborne Library. Add in Cap’n Dick’s Puffing Devil going up and down Basset Street, and it’s one of those days that just feels very Camborne.
You’ve got to admire the work and dedication that goes into keeping these machines running and looking this good. Proper engineering, proper history, and a proper good day out.
