We’re proud to be working alongside Goonvean Aggregates as part of the ongoing progress at South Crofty. This collaboration is helping prepare the site for its next phase, with existing tip materials being carefully removed to make way for the construction of the pre-concentrator and concentrator plant. As excavation of the pre-concentrator plant continues, the work has been thoughtfully designed to be cut into the landscape, helping keep the development discreet while preserving the surrounding views of our historic and iconic engine houses. Operating within a compact site means thinking differently, and together we’re finding innovative ways to reuse materials on-site whilst creating our own road and drainage stone to minimise environmental impact. #southcrofty #cornishmetals #sustainablemining #partnershipworking #cornwall

You may have noticed that our St Piran’s flag, which usually sits proudly atop the headframe, isn’t there currently after taking a bit of a battering from the recent Cornish weather. We do have a replacement ready and will be flying it as soon as possible, but we need to wait for the right conditions - a calm, no-wind day - so it’s safe to use a crane to get up there and rethread the halyards. While it might feel like only a slight breeze at ground level, it can be a very different story at the top of the frame, so safety must come first. When we do get up there, we’ll also take the opportunity to assess any potential damage from the recent storms. Here’s hoping for some settled weather soon so we can get it flying proudly again. #StPiransFlag #CornishMining #SouthCrofty

Exciting progress at Kerrier Way - drilling has officially begun as part of our 2026 Roskear West programme 👷‍♀️🛠️ This phase of work is focused on exploring the western extension of known mineral lodes within the Roskear zone, building on previous drilling carried out in 2023. From a single surface location, we’re able to target multiple zones of potential mineralisation, making this a highly efficient and focused programme. Two diamond drill holes are planned, reaching depths of up to 1200m (around 900m below ground level). These will allow us to collect core samples for detailed logging and analysis, helping us better understand the geology and metallurgical characteristics of the area. We're exploring extensions of structures that form part of the Mineral Resource of the South Crofty Mine. Our aim is to build a clearer picture of the mines long-term potential. This is another important step forward for Cornish Metals as we continue to invest in Cornwall’s mining future 🌍 #SouthCrofty #CornishMetals #Mining #Cornwall #Exploration #RoskearWest

Last week, we sponsored over 60 Cornish students to attend the "Careers for Next Generation Minerals" event held at the @Natural History Museum, London. Students were given the opportunity to find out more about careers in STEM, what Critical Minerals are, and the role that mining plays in our every day lives - as well as taking part in a guided tour of the Minerals Gallery. It was great to work alongside @Imerys British Lithium to support our local schools, and to speak to so many enthusiastic students about careers in the geosciences! Many thanks to the @Critical Minerals Association (UK) for organising such a worthwhile event. #cornwall #mining #Careers #education #stemeducation

When past meets present ….. Late September, the current #SouthCrofty team met with many former miners, maintenance staff, and engineers. At the event held at Heathcote’s Social Club in Pool, retired miners gave valuable insights into old workings, including layout, ground conditions, key infrastructure, and past challenges. This knowledge helped the team cross-check historic experience against existing mine plans and modern data. Combining the practical expertise of former miners with new technology and engineering approaches will improve safety and efficiency as the project moves forward. Dave Howe, our General Manager stated: “It was both inspiring and exciting to bring together our retired miners with the current team refurbishing the South Crofty mine. The meeting was a great success — full of shared stories, experience, and enthusiasm seeing the mine on its way to new life. The wisdom of the past met the energy of the present, setting a strong foundation for the future of the operation as the mine achieves its key milestones towards production, these are exciting times!" Ongoing collaboration will strengthen the project’s risk management and is a fantastic opportunity for the community and our stakeholders to be involved in the project and support Cornwall’s tin mining heritage, the secure supply of critical minerals, local jobs, and investment. With thanks to Lydia for organizing, Steve x3 and Pete for their technical updates and our Director (and former general manager up until closure in 1998) Steve G. for attending! #tin #cornwall #mining #pastmeetspresent
