It's always a good day when coleus are back for the season! These lush shade plants take on a crazy array of colors and forms, from lime green and cream to velvety maroon and every combination of patterns in between. We grow thousands of coleus in our greenhouses each year and they're just starting to make their appearance at the Patio for summer đïž We love using them in shaded containers and garden beds for a pop of color.â

The Wollemi pine is one of the rarest trees in the world. On the rare occasion that one arrives at the Nursery, it's never here long. With over 100 people on our waitlist and two large specimens from @IseliNursery , we wanted to find a creative way to introduce this incredible living fossil to more people. That's why we decided to sell the trees through a lottery â and we're thrilled to donate over $1000 in ticket proceeds to Portland's very own @HoytArboretum !â
â
A huge thanks to the winners, to everyone who entered the lottery, and to everyone in the community who gave us their perspectives. We are a small business with a small team and this was new territory for us, so we didn't expect the massive response to our original post. We deeply appreciate your feedback and your patience with us throughout the process.â
â
Between social media and our displays in-store, we saw lots of people encounter the endangered Wollemi pine for the first time this week. That kind of awareness is the first step to this species and other rare plants surviving into the future. The next steps are action: the advocacy, the fundraising, and habitat restoration in New South Wales â and, of course, the hard work of growing and distributing these plants so the species can survive threats to its native habitat. It's the same kind of conservation work that shapes the future of forests in Oregon and around the world.â
â
If you want to learn more and support this kind of work, the Hoyt Arboretum is an incredible resource with their own collection of rare trees, including the Wollemi pine.
Apologies for our technical issues with the lottery announcement! We''re excited to announce the winners of our 15g Wollemi pine drawing. Thanks to everyone who entered â winning entries will go towards the purchase and all other proceeds will be donated to the Hoyt Arboretum.
The winners have been contacted đČ
It's rhodie season! đ If you're seeing big ol' puffballs of pink (or red, or white, or yellow) trumpets around town, you might just be looking at a rhododendron. These diverse flowering shrubs can range from compact container plants to 12' trees, both deciduous and evergreen.â
â
If it's rhodie season, it's also azalea season! Azaleas are a type of rhododendron (all azaleas are rhodies, but not all rhodies are azaleas.) Azaleas are typically smaller plants with wider-spaced flowers instead of clustered trusses. Some azaleas, like the Encore series, even rebloom in the fall.â
â
Ready to quiz your knowledge? Rhodies (but not azaleas) earn double Rewards points at Cornell Farm throughout the month of May đâ

The Wollemi pine (Wollemia nobilis) is one of the rarest trees in the world, so it's no surprise that there are over 100 people our waitlist. To expand the opportunity to buy one of these beautiful 15 gallon boxed trees, we are launching a lottery through May 11th, 2026. Winners will be first in line to purchase at $3200 each.
â
Critical conservation of these endangered trees is taking place in botanical gardens and home gardens alike, worldwide, and now you can become part of that story.â We will be donating the proceeds of the lottery to further rare plant conservation efforts.
