We are thrilled to launch the Global South Arts and Health South Africa Pavilion today. The Global South Arts & Health Week South Africa (Mzanzi) Pavilion Team welcomes you with open arms to Bloemfontein, South Africa, for the 2nd GSAHW South Africa. Artistic Activism is the practice of using the incredible power of the arts to create innovative and impactful social change in the world.
Art has always been integral to changing people’s lives and improving their social, physical, and mental well-being. South Africa has a strong history of artists deliberately using the arts to pursue social impact discussions.
Since Artistic Activism is such an influential and integral part of impacting social change, The Pavilion will be celebrating and spotlighting artists who focus on art therapy, applied drama and advocacy through art. They need to be given a platform to use their actions to impact and inspire change in communities of need. Because Artistic Activism doesn’t look like Activism and sometimes doesn’t look like art (because it works within contemporary, interdisciplinary and experimental art), people are more receptive to learning, receiving the message and engaging with the artwork.
