#InTheStudio with 2024 Artist-in-Residence Cora Nimtz: โAll of the embroideries that I do are referenced from photos that Iโve taken throughout the South. I find myself really gravitating to religious iconography, and not in the sense of a church and a steeple, but where it exists as a billboard or a broken down van with the words โJesusโ on them.โ

One of my favorite @thomasdollbaum songs is out today! *~pulverize~*
Thought I would share the album cover quilt/embroideries I made for the album before Birds of Paradise comes out later this month! So glad Thomas had ideas of swarms of birds and trusted me to make art for his album ๐โโ๏ธ I love him and I love seeing the world through his music.
You can preorder albums and listen to songs and go to shows via his page, but hey if youโve ever wanted to own some of my art too this kinda works as that ๐
Ca$h!!for!!gold!!
I take a lot of stupid pictures and film pictures and I just want to shout out that I miss the unedited Facebook album photo dump ๐

Outside my window where I work there are some crows that I have failed to befriend over the years. I have tried to leave them snacks and Mardi Gras doubloons. They arenโt my friends yet but I do love them. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated ๐ฆโโฌ
โCrow Frowns
Is he his own strength?
What is its signature?
Or is he a key, cold-feeling
to the fingers of prayer?
He is a prayer-wheel, his heart hums.
His eating is the wind - Its patient power of appear.
His footprints assail infinity
With signatures: We are here, we are here.
He is the long waiting for something.
To use him for some everything.
Having so carefully made him.
Of nothing.โ

The last of plastic chairs series, 3/3 with - you guessed it - 3 plastic chairs ~ I am hoping to evoke the sensation of elation and horror that is leaning too hard on back two legs of a plastic chair. Are those warped legs going to break? And why are they twisting like that? Is this thing going to poof into a pile of dust when you start laughing and rock the chair too hard?? Are these all going to be blown away from the littlest of thunderstorms or breeze jfc?? God bless these pieces of junk!! Making myself feel sappy and tender about Florida through the most commonplace things, ty for caring lol

Okay yall I wasnโt gonna post these because I was sitting on them from last year and then @badbunnypr came out with his opus with a similar visual and I was really overthinking things- these dang embroideries take a while! And then take a photo and post it?! Forget about ittttt
But these are my sweet lil odes to growing up in Florida wandering around the swamps, these chairs seemed to magically present themselves deep down trails. Yes they would absolutely crumble under you if you started to show off and balance on two legs. I was thinking of them as childhood florida thrones. Turns out after the Benito record people have more feelings towards them than I had previously imagined, which I love
The quilt block is called Hosannah, or Palms, and I thought it was a regalness I was looking for. Half the fabric was gifted to me by my Mimi (she hates to quilted batiks, the wax makes them hard to hand quilt) and the other half from my mounting stash. The piece is hand quilted and that chair is all thread and fabric.
