Had the honor of spending Draft Day at Soldier Field talking to Black Bears fans about what Chicagoās football team means to them! I couldnāt have asked for a better assignment! š»ā¬ļø
Corli Jay, The TRiiBEās community investment reporter was terminated by TRiiBE leadership on March 9 alleging that she had broken nonexistent company ethics rules. We believe this is retaliation for organizing a union. One Triibe United demands the immediate reinstatement of our member and voluntary recognition of our union.Ā
As a show of solidarity for Corli who was fired this week, weāre asking supporters of The TRiiBE to contact publisher Morgan Johnson ([email protected]) to express their concerns that leadership canāt fire a staffer without consequences. In addition, we ask that our allies flood The TRiiBEās Instagram (@thetriibechicago ), Facebook (The TRiiBE), and BlueSky (@thetriibe.com ) with messages of support for One Triibe United.
Hereās a script that you can use:
Hi Morgan, My name is ____. I am reaching out to express concern about the recent firing of a reporter. Corli is a hardworking and dedicated reporter; her termination seems to be a case of retaliation for wanting to unionize. āØāØHow can The TRiiBE, as a Black and woman-owned publication, justify terminating a valued team member at a time when Black women are losing media positions at alarming rates? As a small publication that prides itself on uplifting Black voices, this is unacceptable.Ā
I demand Corliās immediate reinstatement and that you voluntarily recognize One Triibe United.

Flood victims are still battling mold and mildew in their basements from severe storms in 2023. Ms. Shirley Anderson was kind enough to invite me to her home, where she says she can smell the mold through her vents. Many of her belongings in the basement were damaged. Grassroots groups have been helping with mold removal for two years, one West Side org finally received money from the city to help with the efforts after months of anticipation. Read more about their story and frustrations at thetriibe.com.

Being born a Bears fan is tough. Each season is filled with new hopes and expectations - some would say delusion - as we speak without a doubt of making it to the playoffs (or Super Bowl). Some of us donāt ask for much, just a W against the God awful Packers. And weāre let down, but we hold on. Hold on for the next game, hold on for the next season. The heartbreaks and upsets we endure all in the name of loyalty that one day itāll all be worth it.
It will be.
ā A Bears Fan.
