I like to maintain an air of professionalism and sophistication.
And then sometimes I just like to be really silly đ¤Łđ
Found a Sweep in my mum's loft a little while back. He asked if he could borrow my recording studio. Who was I to say no?
So may I present Sweep. The Dog. The Legend.
Enjoy...

Happy World Voice Day from someone who uses their voice A LOT!!
Voice acting, singing, teaching, nattering to my mum, shouting at the children to hurry up... my vocal cords get a lot of action and I appreciate them very much.
Let's celebrate all *human* voices today.
A scene study with the wonderful @corinnewilkinsonactor from the movie âAbout A Boyâ. đĽ
Whilst at a restaurant, Willâs lies finally catch up to him. đď¸

*Impersonations*
Voice actors are often asked for a voice performance with a specific (famous) voice in mind. While having a âfamousâ voice as an example of the vocal tone or voice type can be really useful, voice actors don't generally perform celebrity âimpersonationsâ.
However, there can be exceptions
* If itâs being done for pastiche or comedy and itâs made obvious that the voice is an impersonation. * If the original voice actor has passed away (such as in the case of the amazing Ben Whitehead voicing Wallace in the absence of Peter Sallis).
* If the original performance was a long time ago. For example I was recently asked to recreate the vocal tone of a child actor from a film made several decades ago.
So if I were trying to recreate a voice, how would I go about it? Importantly, I wouldnât just listen to the voice, I would try and watch them speak: taking on the physicality, in their body, face and noting:
Pitch - the pitch is often the first and most important thing we associate with a voice.
Rhythm - is it staccato (like Richard Ayoade) or smooth (like Tom Hiddleston)?
Melody - is it melodic (Joanna Page for example) or is straight and even (like Morgan Freeman)?
Onset - where does the sound begin? For example is it sharp, glottal (like Danny Dyer), or soft and breathy like (Scarlett Johannssen)?
Placement - where does the resonance "live"? Is it forward in the lips (like Olivia Colman), nasal/back-of-throat (like Alan Rickman), or deep in the chest (like Idris Elba)?
Speed - do they have an energy to their voice or speak fast (like David Tennant) or are they slow and deliberate (like Bill Nighy)?
Breath - does the person use a lot of breath? Is it gravelly or raspy (like Ralph Ineson) or is it breathy (like Florence Pugh). Are they using vocal fry? (like Tom Hardy).
Volume - are they big and bold in their delivery (ultimate example: Brian Blessed!) or do they almost whisper (of course, David Attenborough).
Speech quirks - does the person have a lisp? Do they pronounce any sounds (or words) unusually?
What is their posture like? Do they gesticulate or are animated?
Oh my, such an awesome time at The Great Big Voiceover Social this weekend. I was too busy face-painting and chatting to get pics so here's one with the wonderful Helen and Sue and me very excited in the car on my way up!
Met so many lovely new people and chatted to friends...didn't want it to end. And after now also rehearsing all afternoon for a show, I am thoroughly ready to sleep!
đ⨠MEET CORINNE! â¨đ
Spot Corinne wandering the arches at The Great Big Voiceover Social armed with her balloon pump and face paints.
The question is... are you brave enough to let her work her magic on you?
𼳠Think spectacular balloon hats.
đŤ Think shimmering glitter face paint.
đŻ Think leaving the event looking absolutely FABULOUS (or utterly ridiculous â but in the best possible way!)
Corinneâs a pro voice actor who trained at East 15 Drama School and spent years in TV, film and childrenâs theatre. These days when sheâs not behind the mic, sheâs transforming people with her creative balloon wizardry and face art skills.
Fair warning: her infectious enthusiasm and playful personality are impossible to resist. You WILL end up with a balloon hat. You WILL love it.

***SOUND ON***
Whoâs feeling festive? Fancy some more cheer?!
âTwas the Night Before Christmasâ is surely THE most quintessential Christmas poem and of course inspired so much of what we think of as Santa today. But I wanted to explore a Christmas for children who donât live in houses with chimneys (I didnât as a child). I wondered about Christmas in a tower block in a big, bustling city. Would Santa have any new challenges? Would the presents still be delivered in time?!
I wrote this re-telling of the classic poem with a modern twist a couple of years ago and have now narrated it too.
Please listen if you have a few minutes to spare...
and if you enjoy it, please share! đ(online⌠and with the kids!)
It can also be found on Spotify if you have an account and want to listen in the car etc.
