It’s been almost ten years since the record first released, but it still feels attached to a very specific version of youth that people haven’t fully let go of. By 2016, Afroswing was beginning to reshape UK nightlife completely, moving from local scenes into uni motives, house parties and clubs across the country. Yxng Bane, alongside a feature from Kojo Funds, captured a moment where the genre was rapidly becoming part of everyday youth culture. The production from GA gave the record its warmth, bounce and melodic rhythm, helping shape a sound that would go on to define an era of UK music. It existed everywhere. Snapchat stories with low exposure flash, park speakers during summer evenings, late-night Uber rides and uni club nights where Afroswing became the soundtrack to a generation. Songs like this didn’t just live online or in clubs, they travelled between both worlds at the same time. Even now, it still cuts through instantly. The clips still circulate online and the second it starts playing, people reconnect with where they were when they first heard it. That’s what keeps the record alive almost a decade later. It’s no longer just nostalgia, it’s cultural memory. Through our CORD Public Music Videos, we want to spotlight the songs that became part of people’s lives, the communities built around them and the moments that still connect us years later.
