a portrait of us + arizona!

we moved out here a little over a year ago and really couldn’t be happier with our decision to call flagstaff (and really, this entire big state) HOME. it fits us like a glove, but best of all it fits who we want to keep being and growing into. mainly glad we’ve built a life that very regularly calls for mesh shirts and buckets, and always, running shorts.

Lap two of UTMB done. With snow and rain overnight it felt like an exercise of patience, adaptation and comfort with uncertainty which seems like the whole point of these things anyways. Happy with the result while wishing I ran faster and super impressed by everyone’s accomplishments this weekend!
Not too interested in a third lap anytime soon, but it took me six years this time, so maybe 2031 is a good year to try one more time!
Back in fall 2023 @cordisimo attempted Nolans 14. A journey from Mt Shavano to Mount Massive! There was no easy step a long his attempt! From extreme wind all night long to a winter snow storm on the last peaks.

Very pleased to come away with a relatively low-free day at Canyons 100M. Ran steady to finish 4th, maybe I should’ve pushed harder to stick with the front pack, but you never know how those off script ideas will play out and it’s easy to ponder what ifs when missing the podium by one spot. It was a great road trip out and week in Auburn with new and old friends, the western states trail was downright lush and in full bloom in the rainy weather and the weekend was a hoot from Friday through Sunday.
Big thanks to @abby.k.hall and @lucy_bartholomew for crewing and pacing all day and night and to coach @corrinemalcolm for getting me to the start fit, happy and healthy!
Now time to ride my bike for a few weeks to recover then get out the poles to jog the lap around Mt Blanc!
Winter and spring training is wrapped up for Canyons 100M in a couple weeks! It’s been a pleasure roaming around the desert running laps and loops in familiar places, checking out new places (Texas!) and keeping up with friends and date nights. It’s been sunny weather and there was also a huge sandstorm I waited out in the van in open desert. Life is good and I’m psyched to be lining up for another hundo soon.
After 6 wonderful years my time with @adidasterrex comes to end. Running professionally was a dream come true and I’ll always cherish the friendships I’ve made along the way. I’m incredibly fortunate to have received the support and opportunities to travel the world. I am looking forward to continuing running independently along my own path. ✌️
Mostly easy riding, hauling water and then one really steep climb racing daylight on a tour of Canyonlands Island in the Sky on the White Rim Road last weekend
believe that the hard moments along the way are part of a greater story. that they’re a directional arrow towards growth, the next evolution, the leveling up.🌀

this is from courmayeur, 50 miles into this year’s UTMB, when the wheels had fallen off and I couldn’t see a way forward. I felt embarrassed and frustrated. being this far behind my goals made me want to crawl into a hole, not expose my failure even more by continuing. I wanted to prove I was coming back stronger and this wasn’t what I had been dreaming of.
.
this is the boiled down version of about a half hour spent in the aid station. I wanted @cordisimo or @jasonkoop to make a decision for me, hoping they could help me forgot the inconvenient reality of how much working through this low would mean to me.
.
what a wild gift it is to have life moments like this on film. when I watch this back, I see my exhaustion from the 14 months leading up to this. I remember how good things take time (like, a lot of time.) and above all, I’m proud of myself. sometimes progress just means you keep picking yourself up again and again, and—oh yeah one more time—again.
.
also: I did finish… and it was worth it. ❤️🔥

3rd at the @kodiak_ultramarathons 100 miler and punched my ticket back to UTMB! After a quite mediocre first half, my crew and pacers turned the pity party into a mission and we closed hard from 7th to 3rd place. The high desert rolling course between pines and Joshua trees along the PCT and dirt roads didn’t feel too removed from a home in Flagstaff, which was just what I hoped it would feel like.
Congrats to Sam and Mike in 1st and 2nd, thank you to my crew and pacers of @abby.k.hall , @jbrazeau and @walmsleyruns , thank you to the Kodiak race organization, San Bernardino Forest and firefighters for finding a way to make this event happen and thank you to @adidasterrex for all the support.
See you in Chamonix!

About done with training for Kodiak 100 and excited to see what the updated course is to accommodate damages from the Line Fire. Even if the aesthetic loop around Big Bear Lake isn’t in the cards this year, exploring another high desert forest like Flagstaff at a big 100 mile event is exciting on its own!
