Ever since working at a marionette theater last fall, I’ve had the dream to design my own 3D printed marionette. As an added challenge, I want to design the marionette to print in one piece so it works off of the print bed, with no assembly required (other than the strings, of course). This first pass is mainly to test range of motion, aesthetics can come later. I’m excited to keep iterating and create a marionette with a really solid range of motion so it can give a great performance. #3dprint #marionette #puppetdesign #mechanical #engineering #3dprinted #printinplace #puppet #puppetshow #toydesign #3dprinting

Howabout a lovely little series of tiny marble runs? It’s a fun challenge to fit unique layouts into such a tiny footprint. #3dprint #render #toydesign #marblemachine #maker #3dprinting #3dmodeling #toy #game #marblegame #marblemachine

I think I’m going to call it the “Thumb-Ball Machine”, what do you think? #3dprint #3dprinted #3dprinting #maker #design #marblemachine #asmr #marbletoy #toydesign #oddlysatisfying #fidget #fidgettoy #engineering #mechanical #mechanism

The question occurs…just how small can these marble machines get? The answer…uh, very small.

Twisting Turret in action! This mechanism took a couple iterations to get right, but I’m very happy with it. I wanted to figure out a way to transfer the linear motion of the stairs into a rotating motion for a turntable. This prints all in one piece with no assembly necessary, and works immediately off the print bed. Watch to the end of the video to get a peek at the mechanism from a few different angles. Let me know if you see the smiley face :) #3dprint #mechanical #marblerun #kineticart #zen #oddlysatisying #asmr #3dprinting #marblemachine #rubegoldberg #art #maker #design #toydesign #engineering

But what if it was a little series of tiny marble machines? I’m just so pleased with this tiny scale, and enjoying thinking how to pack as many mechanisms as possible into this very small footprint. #3dprint #render #3ddesign #marblemachine #game #toy #maker #3dprintingcommunity #mechanical

It’s so tiny! Making tiny objects to 3D print is so satisfying, it’s so fun to refine all these microscopic details and then be surprised by just how small the piece turns out. This marble machine prints in place and fits in a mere 50mm x 50mm footprint! And it took my @bambulab_official printer under 2 hours to print, which is perfect for me and my impatience. #3dprint #3dprinting #marblemachine #engineering #satisying #mechanical #3dprinted #toy #game #marblegame #marblerun #kineticart

This one’s even tinier! Excited to see how it prints!

Been missing 3D design lately and so last night I made this little contraption. I wanted to design it so it fit completely in this 90mm square footprint, which lead to this cool lever lifting mechanism to operate the staircase lift. And it all prints in one piece with no supports or assembly required! #3dprint #marbletrack #marblerun #marbletoy #mechanical #engineering #kineticart #kinetic #toy #game #toydesign #3dprinting #3dprintingideas #3dprintingcommunity

Slalom City Let’s see how this one prints….

Here’s the track in action! All the mechanisms printed in one piece. There are some things I’d like to improve about it in an eventual round 2, but I think I need a little break after getting all of this modeled. Still cool to see how it came out, I’m especially happy with the turntable mechanism. #3dprint #toydesign #marblerun #gamedesign #3dprinted #asmr #oddlysatisfying #mechanical #mechanism #toy #marble

I have been dreaming and scheming about making my own take on this kind of toy for years and years, and the pieces all finally clicked enough in my head to create the 3D model. It’s like a marble run, but the marble is housed in a tiny cart that rolls around the track. And the track can be manipulated by the control panel at the front to assist the cart on its journey. When it comes to making these kinds of files, the assembly can get really fiddly with all the tiny moving pieces. That’s why I’ve designed this model to be 100% print in place (except for the cart). So no assembly required. I’m printing out a test print overnight, I really hope it all works according to plan. Fingers crossed! #3dprint #render #toydesign #fusion360 #marblerun #3dprinting #maker #tinker #prototype #design #mechanical #mechanism #designer
