Just wanna thank @metmuseum for this special invitation. This was such an opportunity I didn't wanna miss ! It was nice to meet other artists during our tour with the curator. I left the museum happy and sad, knowing these pieces are well preserved and taken care of, but then also remembering where these pieces came from and what they represented and now ending up here. Def take the opportunity to check it out ! The exhibition ends April 2nd. And if you're from NYC you can go in for free or pay whatever you want to go into the museum. Happy National Coming out day !
It's crazy to me that 5 years ago I came out to my mother. It may not have been the best way nor the most fabulous way but I knew it was time. While I'm able to finally live my truth it's hard knowing it's a topic my parents and I don't speak upon. (Also since i havent told my father cause thats another situation. )But It sucks that sometimes I feel that I embarrass my own mother just by being me. But in all honesty I'm not gonna live a life where I constantly need to check in if you're comfortable with who I am or how im dressed. I'm super grateful knowing I have the best most supportive siblings ever. And that bond keeps me together. Despite all the abuse, negativity and violence we've endured in our lives i'm so glad that we've been strong enough to keep moving forward together. I'm so proud that I've been strong, ambitious and motivated to work on my craft and on myself. Despite those monthly negative waves of sadness where my past slaps me in the face. I've learned to not let it get to me nor run away from it. I've learned to feel what I need to feel and remind myself that although I may not have all the support nor validation that I want from my family i have the most immense support from my community and the family i myself was able to create. I'm at point in my life where I'm able to express my queerness through art. Embracing my feminine qualities. And still exploring who I am and loving every step of the way. And for that nothing will stop my joy , my journey and my love for life. I've been able to push such huge negative boulders out of my way and nothing will stop me from achieving what I want and deserve. So Mark just know you've come a long way and I'm proud of what you've been able to achieve.
