Drawing what makes Hawaiʻi special is an honor and kuleana I don’t take lightly — and this is a full circle moment, captured on camera.
Ten years ago, the first class I ever taught humbled me. I misidentified several native plants in a live workshop, and a botanist who happened to be taking the class was kind enough to correct me as we went. That moment changed how I work. I promised myself I’d learn everything I could about what I was illustrating — to draw endemic plants as anatomically correct as possible, and to do right by the people who’ve made it their life’s mission to protect the flora and fauna of this ʻĀina.
Getting to spend time with Jen and Bridget at @waikoloadryforest is already in my top 10 moments of 2026 — and probably of my entire Kākou Collective career. Jen and Bridget - I’ll be watching this video on repeat just hear Jen saying I’m crushing it and to watch Bridget nodding and smiling in the back. Mahalo for letting us spend the day with you, letting me nerd out alongside you, for sharing your ʻike and manaʻo 💛💛💛
