Join us for a special free public showing of Maharu, a work that is currently being developed by Contempo Physical Dance. Maharu, a powerful play written by Kasano Mwanza and reimagined as a vibrant contemporary dance adaptation, is a journey into the heart of Afro-Brazilian and Zambian folklore. By attending this showing, you'll be able to witness the transformation of this play into a dance work and have the opportunity to talk to the artists about their creative processes.

An audition will be held for professional dancers for Contempo Physical Dance’s fourth choreography residency, featuring commissioned work by choreographer Jaruam Xavier. Jaruam is a former dancer from Bale da Cidade de Sao Paulo in Brazil. As a choreographer, he has delved into the exploration of Anthropophagic Body Formation, a metaphor he employs to illustrate the assimilation of knowledge through the embodiment of dance and cultural hybridity. His works bear the influence of Candomblé, Capoeira, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, evident in their distinctive traits.
An audition class will be taught by Marciano Silva dos Santos while Jaruam observes remotely. In addition to the audition class, each dancer should prepare a solo up to one minute in length that illustrates their strengths as a dancer.
Audition Date:

10 am - 12 noon
Audition Location:
