My little film has been making the rounds since first debuting as a video installation in my immersive meditation room “Blessed Are Those Who Are Angry,” then was exhibited in the LIC Arts Festival. Since finishing the cinematic version last summer while in residency at the Catwalk Institute in Hudson Valley, it screened on campus for my students, and is now an official selection for the Athens Animfest this weekend! Music for the film was composed by the inimitable @denisemeiyan

✨ Playing with form and the “decorative arts” in my new animated work developed on location during my summer art residency in the Hudson River valley at the Catwalk Institute—decorative arts being a pejorative term that has been used in art history to marginalize the talent, skill, and creativity of women across cultures.

✨A new animated work I developed on site in the Hudson River valley this summer during my art residency at the Catwalk Institute. For nearly a month I was granted time and space to focus 100% on my creative work, what a gift!

🎟️ “Blessed Are Those Who Are Angry” Nov 16-17 in LIC Queens, reserve your free timed-entry tickets at the link in bio! 🥊 “Blessed Are Those Who Are Angry” is a participatory meditation room for all ages, featuring immersive visuals animated by me, frame-by-frame. The work is born out of a personal, reluctant, and ongoing confrontation with grief, and expressed through my chosen salvations: drawing and community. In “Blessed Are Those Who Are Angry,” the animations transform the Fight, Flight, and Freeze responses into the mysterious landforms of an oasis where respite is possible, and the isolating burden of private emotion is lifted. 🎭🙏 This project is made possible in part by an award from the Queens Arts Fund, a re-grant program of public funds supported by New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts. #blessedarethosewhoareangry #art #animation #drawing #community #familyfriendly #meditation #mindfulness #emotions #emotionsmatter #griefjourney #angermanagement #immersiveart #communalspace #newyorkcity #longislandcity #queens #queensartsfund #queensartist #licartists #angerandhealing #qaf2024 #experimentalanimation #abstractanimation #experientialcinema #salvation

🎉”Blessed Are Those Who Are Angry” is a meditation room where art and mindfulness meet in the spaces created between drawn frames of animation. 📆 November 16-17, in LIC Queens, embark on a meditative experience of personal reflection and communal mindfulness, while you are invited to contribute your own presence to the space through guided prompts. 🧘How long can I stay in the meditation room? We hope you come and stay for at least 30 minutes to slow down, take in the art, and contribute your response to the guided prompts. You are also welcome to stay as long as you wish, until the gallery closes. Please stand in solidarity with your neighbors in the room with you, and respect their personal space. A designated lobby area is available for conversation. 🎟️ This event is for all ages, and you can reserve free, timed-entry tickets at the link in bio 👆. 🎭🙏This project is made possible in part with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund, a re-grant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts. #blessedarethosewhoareangry #meditationroom #participatoryart #familyfriendly #newyorkcity #longislandcity #queens #queensbychoice #queensartsfund #queensartist #licartists #animation #immersiveart #experimentalfilm #mindfulness #emotionsmatter #catharsis

🎉My new work “Blessed Are Those Who Are Angry” is an animation exhibition and participatory meditation room coming to LIC Queens, November 16-17. 🧘‍♀️What is a participatory meditation room? It is a physical space mediated by art that facilitates fluid boundaries between personal and communal awareness. Guests are invited to be present in solidarity with each other, standing in the face of personal realities dictated by universal emotions. Guided prompts encourage guests to contribute their creative expressions to the space. 🎟️ Free timed-entry tickets are available through the link in bio. This project is made possible in part with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund, a re-grant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the New York Foundation for the Arts 🎭🙏 #queensartsfund #newyorkcity #lic #longislandcity #licartists #arts #animation #immersive #experimentalart #particiaptoryart #emotions #catharsis #meditation #familyfriendly #mindfulness #blessedarethosewhoareangry
