We’re thrilled to share that AVV A has received a Special Mention in the Architizer A+ Awards for Best Young Firm! Founded in 2024 by Chandler Ahrens, Constance Vale, and Kelley Van Dyck Murphy, AVV A is a St. Louis–based architecture practice working at the intersection of architecture, art, technology, and civic life. Our work approaches design as a cultural project, shaped through dialogue with the communities, clients, artists, and organizations we serve. From galleries, museums, music venues, restaurants, storefronts, installations, and residential spaces to adaptive reuse projects that transform underutilized buildings into active civic and cultural places, our practice is grounded in collaboration, material intelligence, and a belief in architecture’s power to shape collective narratives. We’re honored to be recognized by the Architizer A+ Awards jury among an international group of practices, and grateful to our collaborators, clients, and communities who make this work possible. @architizer #ArchitizerAwards #APlusAwards #AVVA #Architecture #Design StLouisArchitecture WomenLedDesign MinorityLedDesign AdaptiveReuse CivicArchitecture

We’re excited to share that AVV A was recently recognized with two 2025 St. Louis AIA awards! The Walls off Washington Bodega won a Distinguished Award - Art in Architecture in the Small Project Category and an Honor Award in the Drawing Category. Special thanks to Dylan Wei @dylanwei2 for his rendering expertise and Douglis Beck @documodern for photography. Walls off Washington is a small bodega that functions as a convenience store, merchandise sales area, and centralized ticket sales center for all the Kranzberg Arts Foundation venues. Located in a neighborhood with limited access to similar stores, the bodega is a vital community resource, providing convenience to residents who might otherwise not be able to access similar retail options. This project explores the aesthetics of accumulation, a defining characteristic of compact bodegas where display space is maximized by filling every inch with a diverse and densely packed array of products. The overwhelming presence of the accumulated items is amplified by the single, towering shelf that holds them and spans the entire width and height of the space. The 12-foot-tall shelving and 12-foot-long, glass-top island standing in front of it provide space for merchandise. However, the shelving does more than merely display items for sale. It incorporates recycled bottles and cans, painted red to blend seamlessly with the shelf, creating a powerful visual impact and acting as an art installation. @kelleyvandyckmurphy @chandlerahrens @constancevale
