The 2005 documentary, Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, is an intamate, celebratory dive into the life and music of a poet, singer, and songwriter whose words have inspired generations, featuring performances by Cohen himself as well as Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, Beth Orton, Bono, and more. Conspiracy of Beards, San Francisco’s Leonard Cohen Choir, hosts a screening of Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man, a documentary on the legendary singer-songwriter, with performances by those musicians he has influenced. Filmmaker Lian Lunson interviews the prolific Canadian songwriter about his rise to fame and his retreat from the music business. Rufus Wainwright, U2, Nick Cave and others take part in a musical tribute to Cohen at Australia’s Sydney Opera House. Conspiracy of Beards will start the evening off with a few Cohen songs. Just like what would Ferlinghetti Day be without a stop at City Lights? This special stop is not to be missed. Readings and singing, sounds sailing above Columbus and Kerouac Alley…and beyond. We’re thrilled to announce that special friends of Ferlinghetti Day, Conspiracy of Beards, will be joining us again! This volume was his first book of poetry, published in 1955 by City Lights Books as the first in the Pocket Poets series. Background: Ferlinghetti’s personal copy of Pictures of the Gone World was photographed on the blue cover of his “Distinguished Alumnus Award” from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned a BA in journalism from UNC, Chapel Hill in 1941.
