As Conservation Architects at Westport Estate we are delighted to show the latest completed project.
The gates have an interesting story. They originated in Haslemere in Surrey, and were made by a local blacksmith in 1890 for the Stuart Hodgson family. His daughter Agatha married George Browne, and when he became 6th Marquis of Sligo in 1913, he and his wife returned to Westport and brought the gates with them.
The gates were very well executed and highly decorative with fine repoussé work. The gates had and suffered severe damage from exposure to the westerly maritime conditions for the past century.
The owners of Westport Estate undertook their restoration, and local blacksmith John Hogan of Iron Excellence undertook the work. @ironexcellence.ie
A chapel brought to life through craft and collaboration, with each element restored or created by skilled hands.
Centro Ave (Italian liturgical artists) shaped the heart of the space, hand-applying gold leaf to the Jerusalem stone altar, building the reredos with gold and plaster, and incorporating a hand-carved sculpture of St Thomas and the Risen Christ.
This continues through the creation of the handmade stained glass and the careful restoration of the Stations of the Cross, giving them renewed presence within the chapel.
Alongside this, @decowell_restoration have revived the existing Ray Carroll artworks, fabricating missing fibreglass elements on the front elevation and restoring the original colour palette through detailed paintwork.

A fantastic result for the client and wider team, and great to have been involved as conservation architects alongside @bennettsassocs as lead architect.
Delighted to see The Marcus, Portrush shortlisted for the RSUA Architecture Awards in the Conservation Category.
Completed in June 2025, the project involved restoring and reworking a series of Main Street buildings, retaining and repairing original features while introducing new elements shaped by the coastal setting, bringing fresh life and character back to the street.
Delighted to be in such strong company.
Congratulations to our Part 3 Students who have successfully passed their professional exams.
We’re incredibly proud of all you’ve achieved and excited to see your continued impact on the projects and communities we shape together.
Well done from all of us at Consarc!

Porto Study Trip
Our team recently travelled to Porto for an architectural study trip exploring the city’s remarkable mix of tradition and modernity. The visit offered endless inspiration for our own design thinking.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the trip such a memorable and insightful experience.
The new Rolex showroom at 25–29 Donegall Place officially opened in June, just in time for The Open in Portrush.
As part of Lunn’s the Jewellers’ continued investment, Belfast’s oldest surviving building on the street (dating back to 1791) has been beautifully restored and brought back into use, now home to one of the largest Rolex stores.
Having previously collaborated with Lunn’s on the restoration of Queen’s Arcade in 2019, we were delighted to return as architects, applying our conservation expertise to another landmark city centre project.
To find out more about this fantastic project check out our Architects Account by @rachelmurphyart in this months Perspective magazine!

With a contemporary design and a lively ground floor full of activity, this hotel will bring a fresh new energy to the heart of the city. This project is not only about creating an exciting new place to stay, it also plays a part in the wider renewal of the Shaftesbury Square area.
We can’t wait to share more as the project takes shape.
Stay tuned!
