My wife PR’d at the Boston Marathon, achieving a goal she had set out for. Her target was a 3:10:00, she accomplished it when she crossed the finish line with a 3:09:33.
I reflected a lot during her training block, especially while on our long runs together. The word pressure kept showing up. From the pressure of wanting to show up to no pressure of needing to perform. Majority of the thoughts she shared with me revolved around pressure.
Pressure, when applied intentionally, will give you the opportunity to answer questions you’ve probably asked yourself at some point, especially during challenging times in your life. I don’t know what April found in those conversations with herself on the course, and no one ever will except her. But I know she walked away with a deeper understanding of her own capacity - and who controls those inner voices when the moment gets hard.
What people don’t see is the pressure she carried for everyone else. For the people who believed in her, who followed her training, who were waiting at that finish line. Most people will never choose to hold that kind of weight. To face every rational reason to quit and keep moving anyway because the self-inflicted pressure is greater than the self-imposed cost.
That takes a specific kind of heart. While this run was for her, it was also for everyone around her.
The work and the reason doesn’t lie here. It’s revealed.
I’m incredibly happy for her and what she has accomplished this race. And what she found on it, I can already tell it’s something special.
The training block. A place to focus. A place where you get to meet yourself in one of the most honest ways.
It gives you a window of time where you provide proof you are who you say you are, or you start creating reasons for why you aren’t.
You don’t find peace, you create it.
Last night in Tokyo.
Been back in the USA for a week now and getting back into a rhythm. Continuing to build the businesses and heading back into a training block… I’ll be back up for air soon. 🔒

That’s a wrap on a month moving through Taiwan, the Philippines, and Japan. I’m still letting it all soak in.

Travel has always been something special to April and I. Less about getting away and more about expanding our perspectives. A lot of us forget how fortunate we are to have the option to experience another culture and lifestyle, even if it’s for a short period. We move through the top 10 list of what to see rather than taking the time to find the rhythm of the place we are visiting.
Japan is the last stop of our month long travel and it ended unexpectedly in such a great way.
A dinner in Tokyo led us to a spontaneous snowboarding trip to Hakuba, we arrived too early for check in so we stumbled into a restaurant a few minutes away from the station. This place happened to be Ichi Bahn. What started as a plan for a quick bite turned into a few hours of chatting with the couple/owners Marisa and Zack. We jumped from one conversation to another, one of which we learned their reason for opening a business together. We laughed about the challenges we’ve faced and spoke freely about the beauty we find in the places we are.
This part is the highlight of our time back in Japan.
