— Impressive work from a beginner sewing student at the Intermediate Sewing Classes that I teach at Henrietta Adult & Community Education (HACE) on Henrietta Street in Dublin, run by the powerhouse @grainne.n.conroy . Pictured is a shirt project we are currently working on, in which one of my students has just inserted the sleeve. In my teaching I try to bring a design-led approach; it is paramount that not only do students learn certain methods, but the reasoning behind them also and the endless ways they can be employed. It is such a pleasure to see somebody who had never really used a sewing machine before now constructing a garment from scratch - this shirt features in-set sleeves, darts, facings and is entirely French seamed. By approaching garment construction with an experimental archaeological approach, the intimidating nature of techniques can vanish and the possibilities of design trial and error occur. Cannot wait to see what comes next! #sewingclass #sewingeducation #garmentconstruction #experimentalarchaeology

WHEN WILL CRAFT BE PAID FOR PROPERLY? Sparking discussion about craft rates, assumptions about how much does craft cost… and the questionable attitudes of the organisations that are supposed to be in the interests of prospering Irish businesses I hate speaking on camera please forgive my awkwardness 😅 #craft #ethicalproduction #ethicallymade #supportirish

— What a pleasure it was to be invited to launch the beautiful art exhibition of felt work ‘Water & Flow’ by @feltmakers_ireland at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre earlier this month. I spoke about my journey through fashion design, wool, selling and being a craftsperson. It was incredible to see the level of skill and innovation in all the various ways in which felt is being worked and interpreted in Ireland today, truly something special to behold. I cannot wait to see what happens next. Thank you to @bombyxmoriwearableart for the beautiful felt work vase that now lives in my bedroom, I’m truly touched. Thank you for having me @loli.cox @feltmakers_ireland and to @felthappiness for making the connection and introducing me to this exciting world! #felt #feltart #irishcraft #irishdesign #supportirish
