This Sunday!! So excited that this premiere is still happening despite February's terrible weather. I'm extremely proud of this piece and if you're in New York City, you won't regret hearing @confluss absolutely rock it.
New piece being performed Sunday 3/29/26 at 3:00pm, St. John’s in the Village, 218 W 11th St by the amazing @confluss .
It was a ton of work from recording samples/ meeting performers, making the electronic parts, and writing and notating the score. All together this process took about a year.
A blizzard even canceled the first gig! But we prevailed. I can’t fully express how grateful I am to Sam Zagnit and Amber Evans for their dedication to this project and their willingness to try new things.
But this show has more! Composers @nathaniel.parks Parks, Martha Horst, Lori Laitman, @philemign0n , and Sam Zagnit will have their works performed also! Aaaannnnddd special guest @drwillyb will sing the baritone part for some pieces!
This is truly is a show you will not want to miss!

On the second half of the show, @drwillyb and I will perform Lori Laitman’s ‘Holocaust 1944’ for baritone and bass— a beautiful, tragic, haunting and meaningful duo, especially so right now. It would mean the world to me to see you there.

🇷🇴 The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York is pleased to recommend Swallowed By Shadow Engulfed In Light, a new work by Romanian composer Dan Antoniu, presented by the ensemble Confluss.
🎶 Written for soprano, bass, and electronics, the piece explores the duality of shadow and light as sonic materials. Light emerges through resonant overtone melodies, while shadow takes shape in abrasive microtonal clusters and extended vocal techniques. These contrasting forces interact in a visceral sound world that reflects Antoniu’s ritualistic and deeply immersive compositional voice.

🎤 confluss—Amber Evans (soprano and objects) and Sam Zagnit (bass and voice)—are dedicated to expanding the repertoire for voice and double bass through bold collaborations and innovative performance practices.
✨ Romanian-born composer Dan Antoniu creates powerful sonic environments that draw on heritage, gesture, and electronic transformation, with performances presented internationally across Europe and the Americas.

2026 is proving to be an auspicious year so far. At the heralding of this Lunar New Year, I realised that it is confluss’ 10th anniversary. We’ve supported each other through schooling, a global pandemic, recording projects on other sides of the world, finding a new equilibrium back in NYC, and celebrating career milestones along the way. This coming Monday Feb 23rd, 7pm at the Church of Saint Luke’s in the Fields on Hudson St in the West Village (@stlukeinthefields ), we can’t wait to show you what we love doing above all else - creating meaningful and lasting art together. *Five* premieres await of music by @nathaniel.parks , @maestro_distortion , @sam.zagnit.bass , Martha Horst and @philemign0n , plus a rare performance of a @lorilaitman cycle with guest artist @drwillyb . Thank you for your continued support of self-produced new music. We can’t wait to share this with you!! Entry by donation at the door, no one to be turned away by lack of funds. Mark your calendars now to celebrate with us!!

After recording Sam and Amber I spent a lot of time working with the material and really studying it moving it around. This session may look more disorganized but I prefer it that way. In the past I developed all my cues for my work in individual sessions. While organized this leads to less creativity for me. I prefer being able to reference and grab any sound I've used quickly. The high track count was because I needed to process the sounds very specifically. I could have used automation but that tends to be confusing when adjusting so many parameters. And this is only the electronic part the Soprano and Bass will be performing over this!
This was a long collaboration about a year of working on this piece. I'm extremely grateful to Amber and Sam for their dedication and willingness to experiment.
