In the Democratic Republic of Congo, families are cut off from life-saving assistance by insecurity, distance, and harsh conditions. Concern Worldwide is reaching them — working in areas too remote and complex for most to access. For nearly 60 years, Concern has built trusted relationships with communities and partners, making it possible to respond even in the most challenging environments. Despite severe access constraints and difficult conditions, teams remain committed — continuing to deliver essential support while ensuring the safety of both staff and the communities they serve. This is what it means to act when it matters most: showing up in the hardest places, staying when others cannot, and standing with communities in crisis. 📲 Support Concern's work to reach those most in need - Link in bio.

Trauma doesn’t end when people reach safety. It lingers, often unaddressed, affecting children’s development, emotions, and daily functioning. Concern Worldwide provides psychosocial support to children affected by crisis, helping them process distressing experiences and begin to recover emotionally after being forced to flee their homes and live in displacement. Aly was displaced at a young age and grew up in a crowded camp in Burkina Faso. Although he is now physically safe, he continues to carry the psychological impact of what he witnessed and experienced during that time. Growing up amid uncertainty, loss, and instability has made it difficult for him to rebuild routines, feel secure, and process his experiences. Without timely psychological support, these unresolved experiences can continue to affect a child’s wellbeing, relationships, and future. Concern delivers psychosocial support services that help children in situations like Aly’s cope with trauma, regain routines, and begin to recover emotionally after crisis. This includes safe spaces where children can talk, structured activities that restore a sense of normalcy, and trained staff who support them in processing distress over time so they can gradually regain stability and confidence. 📲 Donate today to help children like Aly regain stability after crisis - Link in bio. 📸: ICRC

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where conflict and displacement have intensified the risk of violence against women and girls, Concern Worldwide provides lifesaving medical care, psychosocial support, and protection services to help survivors recover with dignity. Matulizo was already struggling to support her four children alone, relying on irregular work to survive, when she was subjected to sexual violence on her way home from work. She urgently needed both medical treatment and emotional support to begin recovery. She accessed emergency medical care within 72 hours and was referred to Concern for ongoing psychosocial and protection support. Through individual counseling and follow-up care, she began processing her trauma and regaining stability. 💬 “I am grateful to Concern, because today I am still able to live thanks to the assistance I received.” Matulizo’s story is a reminder that in emergencies, mental health and psychosocial support are not optional — they are essential. Concern integrates this support at every stage of its humanitarian response, helping people heal, regain stability, and rebuild their lives with dignity. 📲 Donate now to help Concern deliver this critical support — Link in bio.

In Ukraine, families are living under constant stress and uncertainty, navigating separation, fear, and the emotional strain of war. Concern Worldwide supports families by providing psychosocial care that helps children and caregivers cope with the emotional impact of crisis. Darina is caring for her grandchildren, Oleksander and Natalia, while their father is on the frontlines and mother is missing from the war. The children are growing up amid constant stress and struggle to understand and express what they are experiencing. Through structured play and psychosocial support programs, Concern helps families like Darina’s navigate the emotional toll of crisis in practical, meaningful ways. By providing structured play therapy sessions, children are given safe spaces to express their fears, process their experiences, and begin to rebuild a sense of routine and stability. Darina says the sessions have helped her grandchildren find words for their fears related to the war, something they struggled with before. She also describes how difficult it is to raise them under these conditions. Concern’s approach also recognizes the importance of supporting caregivers who are raising children through crisis, helping them manage stress and strengthen their ability to provide care. This combined approach supports the whole family unit, helping them cope day-to-day and rebuild emotional stability over time. 📸: Jon Hozier-Byrne/Concern Worldwide 📲 Learn more about our response in Ukraine – Link in bio.

💚 How does Concern Worldwide stand with children growing up in uncertainty? In informal settlement camps in northern Syria, children are growing up with constant disruption, limited access to support services, and the ongoing emotional impact of conflict and displacement. Concern Worldwide provides psychosocial support directly in these hard-to-reach communities, creating structured, safe spaces where children can play, talk, and begin to rebuild a sense of stability. Through group and individual sessions, trained Concern staff help children express emotions, reconnect with peers, and re-establish daily routines that are often lost in displacement. These activities offer simple but critical moments of normality in environments shaped by uncertainty, while also equipping children and caregivers with practical ways to manage stress. Over time, this support helps children feel more able to engage with others and participate in daily life again, while families gain tools to better cope with the pressures of displacement. It is a small but vital step toward restoring stability, confidence, and emotional well-being in crisis-affected communities.

At Concern Worldwide, we know that crises leave marks you can’t always see. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we recognize that conflict, disaster, and displacement don't just take homes or livelihoods — they take a toll on minds, hearts, and families. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, years of conflict and instability have exposed communities to violence and repeated displacement. Women and girls often bear the heaviest burden, facing violence and, too often, conflict-related sexual abuse. The consequences extend far beyond the immediate assault, affecting their physical health, family stability, ability to earn an income, or participate safely in their communities. Matumaini is one of these survivors, and with the support of Concern, she has begun to heal and rebuild for the future. Through Concern’s programs, women and girls like Matumaini can access essential medical care, psychosocial support, and protection from ongoing threats, while receiving emergency assistance to meet urgent needs. Over time, they are supported in rebuilding their lives — gaining skills, creating opportunities for economic independence, and participating in their communities with dignity and respect. 📲 Help Concern provide psychosocial care to people affected by conflict, disaster, and displacement - Link in bio to donate today.

In Liberia, Cathrin’s ability to grow food for her family was limited by one daily challenge: access to water. With support from Concern Worldwide, she now has a practical solution that is helping her grow more food and earn income from her farm. Previously, limited access to water meant long daily walks just to collect it, taking time and energy from farming and household responsibilities. These constraints made it difficult for Cathrin to grow enough food, maintain healthy crops, and earn a reliable income. Concern provided a water-harvesting tank — a simple, practical solution that brings water directly to her home. This has allowed her to redirect her time and energy into her farming, improving both the care of her crops and the overall productivity of her land. As a result, she can grow more food, meet her household needs more consistently, and generate income that strengthens her family’s stability. Every harvest reflects the decisions Cathrin makes each day for her family’s future. With support from Concern, women farmers like her are turning their work into food on the table, income for their households, and opportunity for their children. 🌱 What part of Cathrin's story inspires you most? 📸: Eugene Ikua/Concern Worldwide

Agnes’s family in rural Sierra Leone once struggled to produce enough food to meet their daily needs. Limited farming knowledge, tools, and resources meant low yields and a diet that lacked variety and essential nutrients, affecting overall household wellbeing. Through support from Concern Worldwide, Agnes now grows a variety of vegetables in her household garden, including crain crain and spinach. These crops have become a consistent source of fresh, nutritious food for her family. Today, Agnes plays an active role in improving her household’s nutrition and wellbeing. The vegetables she grows contribute directly to more balanced meals at home, supporting her daughter’s health, school attendance, and learning outcomes. 📲 One farming kit can help a woman farmer grow more food, feed her family, and strengthen her community. Women are essential to food security and local economies, producing the food that sustains families and communities — yet they still face barriers to land, finance, tools, education, and decision-making. With support from Concern Worldwide, women farmers gain access to quality seeds, basic tools, training, and market connections, helping turn farming into a reliable livelihood, not just a means of survival. Josephine is one of the women farmers partnering with Concern to build a more secure and sustainable future for herself and her community. Through Concern's support, she has learned post-harvest processing techniques that help preserve the quality of her groundnuts, reduce losses, and prepare them for sale. By improving how her crops are handled after harvest, Josephine can sell more and earn better prices — strengthening her household income, supporting her family’s nutrition, and contributing to the local market. Josephine shows what’s possible when women farmers are supported — stronger families, stronger communities, and stronger food systems. 📲 Support women farmers like Josephine—Donate today to help provide the tools, training, and resources they need to succeed–Link in bio.
