Take a look at this beautiful render and creative solution by Wyatt, @atom.engineering , following the design challenge from @renderweekly to “Design/render a concept that implements a drill bit.” Axis | RW-S8-W15 🔩 "As I do with nearly every render weekly challenge, I start by sketching various different concepts in @conceptsapp which you can see the progression on the second-to-last image in this post. I initially was really drawn to the thin industrial design concept in the bottom left, which utilized cutouts in the main body and a sliding lock mechanism to secure the bit. I’m not sure what gave me the idea, but the thought crossed my mind to utilize a concealed barrel hinge mechanism to allow for the tool to operate off axis to improve the mechanical advantage while operating the driver. Hence the name ‘Axis’. I went back and forth on the form factor of this concept. I could either go with a cylindrical form, or the hexagonal form and play to the existing geometries of the drill bit. I liked the hexagonal form for a couple of reasons, one of which being it almost looks like an Allen Key when it’s in the L-shaped configuration. The concept ended up coming together even better than I had initially thought it would. The addition of the spring clip was a last minute addition, but it helps add to the overall design aesthetic, while also providing functionality." Want more inspiration? Concepts Creator, @Radu.ax shares his workflow with us and expands on his process from a messy sketch to a refined concept. “Most of my work is exploratory. I usually start with a reference, a photo or a scaled drawing and treat the digital screen like tracing paper. I’ll ‘doodle’ over it to see if what I’m imagining actually works in reality. As you can see in the first image, these early scribbles are pretty chaotic and usually only make sense to me. Once I’ve found a direction, I’ll trace a cleaner version that’s readable for the rest of the team.” If you have any questions for Radu about his work and process, drop them below. Every space starts as a mess that someone wasn’t afraid to make. We’re taught to show the world the polished render. The 3D model. The finished photo. But the magic is actually in the “ugly” sketches—the ones where the ink bleeds and the proportions are slightly off. Why? Because those lines represent a risk taken. To sketch is to admit you don’t have all the answers yet. It’s the act of being comfortably lost until the solution finds you. Don’t polish the life out of your first thoughts. Let them breathe. Let them be “wrong” until they become right. ✨ Drawn in @conceptsapp . . : #creativeflow #interiordesign #theartofsketching

Architect and Educator, @Radu.ax shares his thoughts on the future of architectural engineering, sketching and how it can be used alongside AI tools. “It’s a truly exciting time because sketching is becoming more versatile. We have tools now that can turn 2D sketches into 3D models or animations directly on an iPad. In such a fast-paced industry, sketching remains the most efficient, low-resource and sustainable way to coordinate a design. With the rise of AI, a simple sketch actually becomes even more powerful. AI platforms like NanoBanana and @visoidai allow you to take a basic drawing and augment it using prompts and references to iterate on an idea much faster. Sketching isn’t being replaced; it’s becoming more important to set a clear direction as a ‘base layer’ for all these new technologies to layer on.” You can check out more of Radu’s sketches in our “Creators” story highlight. #conceptscreator #architect #nanobanana #architectureillustration #architectureconcepts
