Did you know we continue to generate new neurons as long as we keep learning, exploring fresh ideas, and challenging our minds with creativity? Reading exciting books, imagining something that doesnât yet exist, and bringing it to life keeps our brain young by forming new neural connections.
But in the age of AI, we risk losing many of our natural mental abilities, especially the ones we donât regularly practice. Yes, AI is fantastic at taking over repetitive tasks (honestly, if I could outsource ALL endless rows of the same stitches, Iâd be tempted đ and you?).
Alas, the production of new neurons declines sharply at the onset of Alzheimerâs. Like grains of sand âł slipping through my hands in this photo, our cognitive abilities can fade, sometimes as early as our mid-40s, especially if we stop challenging our minds.
Only we choose what supports our growth. Many of my retired customers intentionally look for advanced-level crochet patterns because mastering different stitches help their brain stay active. Crocheting simple things âas the new yogaâ doesnât work for them, especially in a world dominated by AI.
Designing new crochet patterns from scratch, writing out rows, drawing crochet charts, choosing new yarn 𧜠keeps my brain sharp and engaged too. And thatâs my goal to stay young and motivated as long as possible!
You can do it too! Start by creating something original. If your first piece turns out a little wonky, no worries - yarn is wonderfully forgiving (unless youâve already chopped it up for colourful granny squares đŤŁ).
With every new attempt, youâll improve. Experience comes with practice. Just start and keep going!
Happy crafting! đĽ°

Canât remember who said that a woman is a process, but that philosopher had a point: in this fast-changing world, weâre constantly evolving and growing into better versions of ourselves. It becomes visible in our style, mood, knowledge, hobbies etc.
Wearing the same style or repeating the same construction over and over canât fully reflect our exciting evolution. Thatâs why my designs are made for ever-changing women. I explore various techniques, silhouettes, constructions, stitches to create unique garments for every season and every stage of life.
Here are 20 original Conceptcreative designs from the past few years that could resonate with who you are now. Take a moment to browse these 20 photos and imagine them in your wardrobe.
I am a solo designer, not an AI âpattern mill.â If my work speaks to you, youâre welcome to join my newsletter where I share new patterns and test calls. Youâll hear from me 10-12 times a year, so you get only the high-effort patterns without the inbox flood :).
What you may appreciate in my patterns:
⢠Original designs with high-quality charts drawn from scratch (not published anywhere else)
⢠Unique wearables created by your own hands and not available in ready-made shops
⢠A gentle way to switch off the dayâs noise by following the rhythm of changing stitches
⢠Realistic photos taken by humans for humans, showing what you can make with real, available yarn
Since magazines and books eventually circulate freely online, I donât submit my work there. I rely on email to stay in touch with the real makers who actually use my patterns. It takes 30 seconds to subscribe to Conceptcreative.club - you can visit it, DM me your email with the word subscribe, or leave a comment to get a direct link.
In a time when social platforms and marketplaces are steered by AI algorithms and AI-generated items flood Etsy & Pinterest, your genuine feedback matters deeply. If you have special wishes or ideas for future designs, I would be happy to read your thoughts.
Thank you.

đ Today Iâm celebrating a half-century on Earth! Funny enough, YouTube keeps suggesting videos like â how to feel 20 when youâre 50â. Really? I still feel 20, so I guess Iâve done everything right. đ So, itâs not my guide on aging, but a few fun facts from my first 50 years:
đź Professionally:
- Worked as Head of Sales in several international companies, secured enough to enjoy life fully and retired in 2008.
- Published 133 patterns on Ravelry, Etsy & my website because I love creating original pieces!
- Speak 4 languages, can read in 5th (French) and even spent a few months learning Chinese & Greek. Â
đ¨đđşđŚ Personally
- Hold Swiss & Ukrainian passports, though neither is my ethnic background. Â
- Married to a wonderful man, university professor, 6 years younger than me (I believe marrying younger keeps you feeling & looking younger đ).
- Proud mom of a grown-up son & a cat owner.
- Traveled to 25 countries & lived several years in 4 of them. And counting!
đż Physically:
- Height 175 cm, weight 63 kg (gained 6 kg since 2020 and itâs ok).
- Quit smoking in 1998 after 7 years (ask me how đ ).
- Since I was 20, my diet has been proteins, fats, fruits, vegetables. Carbs only in small amounts; ice cream & condensed milk are my rare treats. Â
- Took sugar in coffee, but cut it completely 2 months ago. Soft drinks? Way too sweet for me, I prefer tea or coffee instead.
- Alcohol? Just beer or wine occasionally - a few times per month.
- My secret to staying in shape? I stand while eating and occasionally do some sports - cycling, canoeing or country skiing.
- Health issues? Who hasnât đ. Hereditary allergy, endometriosis, autoimmune thyroiditis, myopia. Had 3 laser eye operations, and those are not the last ones. Was born with the spina bifida occulta.
đ¤ My Life Philosophy:
- Solving problems with logic - never with tears.
- Treating people the way they treat me, gracefully returning their own vibes, whatever they are.
- Ready for my next 50 years with the same energy, curiosity, & creativity!
P.S. This post needs a touch of #crochet. Todayâs featured pattern is Origami sweater. You know, where to get it.
Happy crafting đĽ°

Something unexpected happened while crocheting this project (I explain it in this video). I wasnât prepared for this experience, but crocheting advanced level items and writing patterns for them definitely helped.

This video isnât strictly about MOSAIC crochet; here Iâm showing mosaic as wall art. But maybe this picture will be an inspiration for your next crochet project?
P.S. As I mentioned in the video, Iâve seen several unfortunate young men undergoing treatment in a local womenâs breast cancer clinic. So, if you know young men using steroids to build muscle, please tell them that performance-enhancing hormones significantly increase the risk of breast cancer in men.

Quote from a forum: âI started a sweater while watching a comedy. Then I switched to an intense drama, and my tension tightened so much I couldnât even get the hook through the stitch! I had to unravel everything, change the show, and start over. Thatâs when I realized how much my state of mind influences my work.â
This funny story highlights a few interesting things about our tension:
đ§ The âTV-friendlyâ myth: Even the simplest patterns require a âtension checkâ when the plot thickens.
đ The gradual shift: Tension doesnât always change instantly. Like that crocheter, we might not notice the tightness of our stitches until the fabric gets too stiff.
𧜠Procrastination gap: If we leave a project for months, our tension may be completely different when we return. Consistency loves momentum!
đ The importance of schematics: Detailed schematics ensure our handmade garment matches the intended measurements, regardless of what is playing on Netflix. Provided that you regularly measure and compare your work.
âşď¸ Made-to-Measure vs. Gauge-based: While made-to-measure designs offer freedom with yarn and hooks, they wonât signal when to change your hook size, since the designer doesnât take responsibility for your tension and flow of your fabric.
Iâm curious, whether we all tighten our stitches while watching thrillers, or our stitches get looser when weâre relaxed or watch romantic comedies?

Trees donât need sweaters. Period. đŤ Yes, âyarn bombingâ is often seen as cute. But when crochet pieces are left to face the sun, rain, and snow, it isnât âdecoratingâ - itâs watching high-quality cotton and linen slowly turn into weathered rags.
While the intention is to spread joy, the reality is often faded colors and decaying fibers.
For me itâs just hard to watch. A tree is at its most stunning when itâs blooming naturally. đ¸
If people truly want to share the joy of crochet, why not leave a small, finished gift for someone to find and take home? That way, the handmade art lives on in a cozy home rather than rotting on a tree trunk.
On the bright side: My own crochet sweater design (featured here) is perfectly suited for the outdoors as long as you are the one wearing it! Itâs the ideal layer for this transitional weather, and it looks much better on a human body than on a tree trunk. đ
Do you love seeing crochet in the wild, or do you prefer it on a hanger? Is yarn bombing âartâ or âwasteâ for you?

Weâve reached a thrilling point in our CAL when the Silvan Echoes are getting louder! 𼰠Seeing your first projects on Ravelry grow through round 18 has been breathtaking, but for those who believe âmore is more,â it is time to let your stitches grow further!
Why the name âSilvan Echoesâ? Inspired by the quiet, grounding energy of the forest, the design âechoesâ the organic patterns found in nature, bringing the serenity of the outdoors into a modern interior.
Much like a sound echoing through a quiet forest, these textured stitches start in the centre and ripple outward through 3 distinct CAL parts and difficulty levels, capturing the very moment life begins to stir after a long winter sleep.
In part 2, we are transforming your beautiful doily into this luxurious crochet cushion - a perfect touch of texture and nature for your home.
Do you dream of a true âstatementâ piece? Imagine joining several of these motifs to create a floor-spanning carpet!
In May, we will continue expanding this design into a grand rug or medallion blanket. To ensure your masterpiece fits your space perfectly, I am also working on a half-motif version, which will be sent to those who complete part 3.
The three Stages of Growth this Spring:
Part 1: The Heartwood (Doily) - Published March 2026.
Part 2: The Branching (Cushion) - Published April 2026.
Part 3: The Finale (Small rug or medallion blanket) - available from May 2026.
I am so curious to see which shades you are choosing to complement your living room. Please tag me on Instagram so I can admire and share your beautiful work!
âĽď¸ Join the CAL:
If you missed our start on March 28th (when the introduction was offered at one-third of the final price), donât worry! Both parts 1 + 2 are currently available at half the final price. All 3 parts will be available for immediate download at the full price starting in May.
Happy Easter and Happy Crocheting đ§ś!

As the Northern Hemisphere shifts into Spring, Silvan Echoes captures the very moment life begins to stir after a long winter sleep.
The name âSilvanâ comes from the Latin silva (meaning wood or forest). Much like a sound echoing through a quiet forest, these textured stitches start in the centre and ripple outward through 3 distinct CAL parts and difficulty levels.
For those who follow the natural rhythms of the year, this pattern serves as a grounding, meditative practice. Each round builds a layer of organic texture, turning yarn into a beautiful design for your home.
How the CAL Works:
â¨The Silvan Echoes crochet pattern grows from a doily shown here into a cushion, and finally into a small rug or a medallion blanket. This CAL is designed so you pay only once and decide where you want to stop.Â
The three stages of growth in Spring:
Part 1: The Heartwood (Doily shown here) in March-April 2026.
Part 2: The Branching (Cushion), in April-May 2026.
Part 3: The Finale (Small rug or medallion blanket) in May-June 2026.

The Happiness gap versus personal Wellbeing: have you ever looked at the âWorldâs Happiest Countriesâ list and felt a bit⌠skeptical? đ¤
On this International Day of Happiness, I browsed the 2025 rankings and wondered, how is it that Greece sits at 81st place, Israel at 8th, Singapore at 34th; or that South Korea is 58th while Mexico is 10th?
Wealth and well-being became disconnected long ago, as economist Richard Layard explored in his book Happiness. Then, whatâs the point of economic growth if fewer people are actually enjoying life?
Global happiness rankings rely on metrics like GDP, corruption levels, and life expectancy, but they often miss the true texture of a happy life.
From travelling across 20 different countries and staying in some of them for several months or years, Iâve noticed that people living in warmer climates often feel more open, more supportive, regardless of their countryâs ranking. Maybe happiness lives less in statistics, and more in connection.
For me, happiness is the freedom to create what I love, having enough to live the life I choose, and feeling supported by people who value what I make. Even when health issues affect my quality of life, I try to remain positive and find visual peace in beautiful things.
This âNostalgic wrap cardiganâ is a small expression of that freedom and love of all things beautiful. Pattern link in my bio. Happy crafting đĽ°

Creating is a marathon, not a sprint. Designing this âGo with the flow sweaterâ was a full year in the making. From the first sketch to the final PDF, it took months of focused work:
⢠drawing crochet charts;
⢠writing stitches for every row;
⢠filming step-by-step video tutorials;
⢠grading for a great fit across sizes Sâ2XL;
⢠testing this design.
Looking back, that year was spent with a great purpose. Iâm happy for every minute spent designing beauty for the âslow fashionâ world!
See how Helen (Ladyofthewind on Ravelry) and Susan (Labradork on Ravelry) look incredible in their #gowiththeflowsweater featured here.
Canât wait seeing how you all bring these stitches to life! đĽ

Many of you, like me, appreciate meaningful films that stay in your memory. Last year I watched âThe Seed of the Sacred Figâ (2024), a powerful drama exploring how a person can change within a totalitarian society in a country that is in the news these days.
The title is a metaphor, symbolizing a plant that grows to strangle its host. The film shows how the psychological weight of living under an oppressive government can fracture personal relationships, turning a person into a danger to their own loved ones.
The tension comes from unspoken fears and subtle betrayals within the family. If you want to see a story about people trapped inside their own home, torn between survival and moral compromise, I canât recommend this film enough.
And yet, even in dramatic times, we look for signs of life. Perhaps thatâs why early spring feels so vital this year. No matter the weight of the winter (or the world), the shoots will push through the snow. This resilience inspires us - new life is born, new ideas push their way out in spite of everything. Creating something new is, in itself, an act of hope.
Wishing you a weekend filled with meaningful stories and the quiet beauty of new beginnings. đĽ°
