Connecting Habitat(s), is a collaborative project exploring the local and global impacts of a fast changing planet, how we experience these differently, and our search for synergies, solidarities and creative solutions. The images here are extracts of work-in-progress from the artists, responding to different prompts, from using soil as a connecting element between people and earth, to observing movement in nature and reproducing it into materials.
The name Connecting Habitat(s) arrived from the questions:
- Habitat is a place where an organism makes its home - What does home mean to you?
- How do we create a sense of belonging in a rapidly changing world?
The project seeks to engage communities local to each artist and enhance a culture of exchange in a process of shared storytelling through the #GlobalWe portals.
The full body of work will be displayed at the portal at SPACE10 in Copenhagen until May 17, 2023.

Residency artist @mamoni.chitrakar along with @Sameer Chitrakar at @compound13lab .
Mamoni is Patachitra artist from Midinipur, West Bengal. She has been practicing this form of storytelling with songs and scrolls since she was a child, She with Sameer are in Dharavi Lab creating a narrative of and around the exploitation of Mithi river amidst the Urban setting.

It's a pleasure to watch our current residency artist @abhijitpatro at work alongside children of Dharavi.This workshop has encouraged them to be critical of their surroundings and have prepared them for intervention in public spaces through moving image. Each session has deepened their observations and has helped extract the vaccume they understand themselves to be in. These sessions have been key in sowing in them the seeds of an art form based on collaborations. We thank you for being an integeral part of the Compound 13 Lab residency program.
