We’re back 💕💕💕 book now for November 🖊️ 📕 We’re delighted to announce the fifth iteration of The Compost Library: WRITING THE SHIFT – Writing Towards Transformation. Across four gently held sessions, we’ll explore the radical tenderness of Loving Corrections by adrienne maree brown; a text rooted in emergent strategy, care-based accountability, and transformative justice. This course invites you to approach writing not just as a creative act, but as a process of ongoing personal and collective change. Where previous Compost Library programmes began with authors offering creative structures or ecological cosmologies, this iteration centres writing as a relational and restorative practice; one that allows us to compost perfectionism, shame and fear, and nurture new stories through trust, truth, and connection. With brown’s lens of “loving correction” as our guide, we’ll explore how to meet ourselves and each other with more curiosity and compassion. We’ll ask: what needs to be rewritten? What stories are ready to evolve? How can we practice creative accountability on the page and beyond it? “Loving correction is the root of transformative justice. We want to call people back in, not out. We want to bring people back into right relationship.” — adrienne maree brown Each week we’ll read together, write in community, and reflect through prompts, dialogue and gentle somatic practices. This course is about slowing down, listening closely, and allowing what wants to emerge to take shape. It’s for writers, artists, organisers and anyone drawn to the messy, beautiful process of becoming. 🔗info about price, dates and logistics at the link in bio 🔗

In the summer of 2023, I was a part of the video essay scheme at @w_shed in Bristol for their Cinema Rediscovered @cineredis film festival. I got to watch loads of films and have classes on film criticism and hang out with the sweetest people and it was a real highlight of my year. After the festival, each of us was commissioned to make our own video essay based on what we had seen in the programme during the week. My piece ended up as an experimental collage of five films, Drylongso, Jeanne Dielman, Midnight Cowboy, Millennium Mambo and The Virgin Suicides with an original score by myself. I wanted to use clips from these films to enact a feeling of domestic entrapment, beginning this process of understanding what I had lived in until I was 25 and titled it “It Takes Time to Build Castles’ not knowing this is what I would go onto develop in @compost.library classes and would later become the title of my book with @w0rms.w0rld  . It was during the final process of titling the book that I realised this film had set the tone of what I went onto create for the overall arc of the story and that they were one in the same. I am really proud of this film and the experiments I took in the edit, I love editing film so much and this extension of collage as a life mantra that I find freedom in. Thank you to all of my fellow film heads I met being a part of this group, Cinema Rediscovered, Jonathan Bygraves, Liz Greene, Maddy Probst, Will Digravio, Tara Judah and Watershed and the filmmakers who made the films I collaged from, I <3 the cinema forever !!!!!! so excited for this film to be out in the world <3 The film is also available on my website if you want to watch it there :-) and if you want to buy my book it is on the worms website/in my bio !!

Over at @w0rms.w0rld we’ve published a book of poems by @tobycarveryprincessxoxo who many of you will have met at the Compost Library over the years. Sky has been one of the longest standing compost attendees and it is with such joy that we got to publish her debut book of poems. These ones pictured were written at Compost, and many seeds were planted for the whole book. Big proud moment from Compost. Book available to buy via link in bio. 100% of proceeds from badges go to @doorsteplibrary ✨✨✨✨✨
