Such a joy to work with the extraordinary Clarion Trio, a group of disabled musicians who first met through the National Open Youth Orchestra (NOYO). Check out their fantastic live performance of my ‘The Preservation of Fire’ commissioned by @coma_newmusic .
The release of this video has coincided with the fabulous news that Alessandro Vazzana will be performing @toomanydots brilliant @theclarionuk Concerto ‘Soaring Through Sparks’ with the @nationalopenyouthorchestra at this year’s @bbcradio3 Proms – great to see this accessible instrument and its star performer getting the recognition they deserve.

Still on a high after last night’s brilliant, life‑affirming @coma_newmusic 'The Finishing Line' concert. The Clarion Trio gave such a fantastic first performance of my The Preservation of Fire, and it was wonderful to hear exciting new music by @mouthless_palfrey@amy.crankshaw@mathis.saunier_ , Eleanor Alberga, Diego Monsalve, @gregoryrose4824 , Sheena Phillips, @janetoatesmusic , and @alice_chance_ , performed by @coma_london , @conductorluciasvecova , @comasussex and the CoMA Singers - all brought together by the fabulous CoMA team, @tamarakohler and Fran Le Lohe.
The evening was such a reassuring snapshot of the state of new music today. Massive thank you to The Clarion Trio and to CoMA!
EXCITING CONCERT ALERT! I wanted to let you know about a very special concert taking place on Sunday 29th March 2026 at 5.30pm at the Brady Arts and Community Centre, 192–196 Hanbury Street, London, E1 5HU (/venues/the-brady-arts-centre).
For the past six months, I’ve been working with the Clarion Trio (/) on a brand new piece. The Trio are an extraordinary group of disabled musicians who first met through the National Open Youth Orchestra @nationalopenyouthorchestra . They now tour the UK, introducing audiences to the Clarion (/), a groundbreaking accessible musical instrument, and performing their ever growing repertoire.
@coma_newmusic have commissioned new works from both me and my colleague Louis Palfrey and our pieces for the Clarion Trio will open their The Finishing Line concert (a.org/.../ense.../singers/the-finishing-line/) - the final event in CoMA’s month long festival of new music. The programme features a dazzling variety of ensembles and commissions, and it promises to be a memorable evening.
If you’re free on 29/03 and within reach of East London, it would be lovely to see you there.
Opera broadcast tonight!
8.30pm (Sunday) on https://youtu.be/1rTrnResSR0
In September, I was lucky enough to work on a collaborative opera project with Alan Grau Jori, Liberty Richardson, Lucian Amette Crosby and Sharvi Rana as part of Manchester Contemporary Youth Opera - the extraordinary brainchild of Artistic Directors Nina Whiteman and Richard Strivens, guest-mentored by the fabulous Gareth Mattey and Elayce Ismail.
The brief was to create, rehearse, record and perform a brand-new 15-minute opera in just eight days. The result, 'The Way Is Empty', is being broadcast tonight at 8.30pm on https://youtu.be/1rTrnResSR0, followed by the stunning 'In the Engine of Its Throat' by Katherine Lee, Luz Blanco Santos, Seth Connor-Fullwood and Tristan Hail: https://youtu.be/9Mao00DniIo.
If you’re around tonight, do tune in — or catch it any time afterwards on YouTube.
