Como’s new baby sloth is looking stronger every day, and guests can now catch adorable moments like this between baby and mom, Sago.
The little one was born on May 6 to first-time parents Sago and Ziggy as part of an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding recommendation. Our animal care team continues to closely monitor mom and baby, and we’re thrilled with how well things are going so far.
If you’ve been thinking about visiting Como this weekend, this is your sign. Stop by the Primate Building and see if you can spot the newest (and slowest!) little member of the Como family hanging out with mom. 💚

This weekend, explore the annual Mother’s Day Bonsai Show inside the beautiful Marjorie McNeely Conservatory and throughout the Visitor Center. Marvel at stunning miniature trees carefully shaped by members of the Minnesota Bonsai Society and Como’s own bonsai collection. Bonsai experts will also be onsite to answer questions and share their passion for this incredible living art form.

Just in time for Mother’s Day….we have a new baby sloth at Como! ❤️
On Wednesday, May 6, Hoffman’s two-toed sloths Sago and Ziggy welcomed a new baby at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.
The birth is part of an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding recommendation. As an accredited zoo, Como works closely with the SSP to help support healthy, sustainable populations of animals in human care.
So far, mom and baby are doing well and spending lots of time snuggled closely together, just as sloth babies do. Animal care staff have even observed the baby “kissing” mom while she eats! 💚
Guests can see Sago and her baby in the Primate Building, where they share their habitat with Como’s saki monkeys. Our animal care team continues to closely monitor both mom and baby and provide them with the support they need as they bond together.
And if you’re wondering whether the baby is a boy or girl…we won’t know for quite some time yet!
