Happy 517 Day from your Community Foundation!
We know a few special places you should spend your day — Rotary Park, Play Michigan!, and Fish Ladder Music Park, perhaps?
But we also know that it’s the PEOPLE from the region who make it great. We’re glad to be the 517’s Community Foundation, today and everyday.

We hosted a Storytelling webinar led by @piperandgold for attendees representing more than a dozen area nonprofits.
The session featured research on how stories can strengthen public understanding and tips on how to frame stories in a way that will inspire action.
With time for discussion and a fillable workbook for attendees to use, we were so pleased to facilitate this accessible opportunity for our nonprofit partners. We can't wait to see the stories they have to share!

Thanks to everyone who joined us last week for our Professional Advisor Happy Hour!
It was a great chance to connect, share updates from the Community Foundation, and talk about how planning ahead can support the causes and community people care about most.

Yesterday, some of our team had the privilege of attending the Women United 25th Annual Lighting the Path Luncheon, hosted by the @unitedforscmi .
This special event featured many outstanding women leaders from our community sharing their stories of success and challenge. It was an inspiring reminder of the power of community, connection, and investing in the future of girls and women in our region.
We’re proud to partner with community organizations that are working hard to make a difference in our community!

At the Community Foundation, we are big fans of the Izzo family! 💚🤍
We manage @theizzolegacy Endowment Fund. We received a 2025 Izzo Legacy Impact Grant Award. And Sunday our staff ran (and walked) alongside thousands of neighbors, friends, and colleagues at the 7th Annual Izzo Run/Walk/Roll!

Congratulations to our own Dr. Cindy Hales, who was recognized today with a Community Champion Award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Capital Area Chapter!
As Cindy's teammates, we see her providing support to local nonprofits every day. Her insights and advice help organizations across the Capital Region thrive, and this recognition is well deserved.

We kicked off our Board Governance Essentials series last night with a room full of nonprofit partners from across the Capital Region.
Led by consultants from Nonprofit Network, each organization sends two attendees to this training: the Executive Director/CEO and one board member. Together they can put these practical tools to work for their organizations' specific needs.
Strong governance is so important to a nonprofit's stability, and we're glad we can provide trainings like these to help the regions' nonprofits thrive into the future.

We were able to fully fund 15 projects for local nonprofits serving young people across the Capital Region!
YAC students came together to discuss the projects, share scores for each proposal, and make decisions as a group at YAC Grantmaking Day this past weekend.
This is philanthropy in action, and we are so excited to tell these nonprofits about the funding support coming their way!

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month!
We appreciate our all-volunteer Board of Trustees who provide leadership and strategic guidance for our work in serving this community. We also appreciate the many volunteers who give their time, expertise, and energy to support local nonprofits across the Capital Region.
Your efforts are truly making a difference, and we see it.
Think of one volunteer you want to recognize this month, and tag them in the comments! ⬇️

We're so excited to share stories featuring fundholders and nonprofit partners of the Community Foundation in a new video series.
First we have the @friendsofELPL , who have supported their library for over 75 years. When the pandemic interrupted their revenue plan, they found support and sustainability by opening an agency endowment with us.
