Today marks the 5th annual National Day Without Child Care led by Community Change’s (@communitychange ) Childcare Changemakers.
Families and early childhood educators across the country are calling for a child care system that works for everyone:
👨👩👧 Child care for every child and family
💪 Thriving wages for early childhood educators
🤝 A child care system built on racial and gender equity
Right now, too many families are struggling under the rising cost of care, while early educators continue to be undervalued and underpaid. Families should have access to affordable, high-quality care, and educators should have wages and support that reflect the essential role they play in our communities.

Today, childcare providers, parents, and families across the country will shut their doors, call out sick, or close down early to participate in Community Change Action’s 5th Annual National A Day Without Child Care.
People are fed up with the interests of billionaires coming before our babies, our budgets, and our benefits. But we know that together, our voices can rise and we can win the childcare system – and the care economy – we all deserve.
On a “Day Without Child Care,” we’ll call to protect ALL of our care – childcare, healthcare, Head Start, food support, home care – because we know when you come for one of us, you come for all of us.
Our demands include:
👶🏻 An equitable childcare system built on racial and gender justice
👶🏽 Thriving wages for childcare providers
👨👨👧 Affordable and accessible child care for all families.
👨👩👦👦 No cuts to Head Start
🤰🏽 No cuts to Medicaid/SNAP #daywithoutchildcare
Hot off the digital presses at the Oregon Capital Chronicle: A Day Without Child Care: Universal problem requires a universal solution
"We have been sounding the alarm for years: Oregon’s child care system needs support. From early childhood educators and child care advocates, to parents and families, we are being pushed to the brink. We have been pleading with our elected leaders to prioritize children in our state’s policies."
Thanks to our partners, Ty Morris and Kendra Votava, for sharing this vital message!

10 years ago, the idea of #guaranteedincome was written off as wishful thinking.
Today, alongside @communitychange , and @move_uptogether , we’re hosting the third Guaranteed Income Now convening — bringing together hundreds of organizers, policymakers, researchers, and participants who’ve turned a once-impossible idea into a movement reshaping how this country thinks about cash, trust, and economic freedom.
What started with two pilots in Stockton, CA and Jackson, MS has grown into a nationwide movement of 230 pilots that puts cash in the hands of 70,000 families.
We’re gathering at a moment when the affordability crisis, AI disruption, and climate upheaval are transforming our economy — and when guaranteed income has emerged as one of the most tangible solutions we have to help families navigate this period of deep transition.
The next decade is ours to shape.

Child care in America is broken — and families and providers are paying the price.
1 in 3 families spends more on child care than on rent. Child care workers often earn poverty wages while facing cuts to healthcare and SNAP benefits. At the same time, rising costs are making it harder for families to make ends meet. This system is unaffordable and unsustainable.
That’s why on May 11, we’re joining parents, providers, and advocates across the country for a #DayWithoutChildCare to raise awareness about the urgent need for affordable, accessible child care and stronger support for providers and working families.
We believe families and providers deserve policies and public investment that make care affordable, support thriving wages and benefits for providers, and strengthen our communities and economy.
Because when child care works, families thrive. Communities thrive. Everyone benefits.

Lenise has been holding her child care business together in Tennessee — barely. Not because there isn’t a need in the community, but because of a system that doesn’t support her.
This April, during Care Workers Recognition Month, we’re passing the mic to caregivers who make everything else possible.
Their work can’t wait.
