This month composes itself in layers: a top note of blossom, a heart of new leaf, a base of warming earth. Below, a few of the places we'll be spending time in Somerset to commune with nature and others. We would be so pleased to have you join us. 🌱 Great Garden Weekend @thenewtinsomerset Hadspen, 9–17 May The Newt opens its gates to non-members for its inaugural garden show: a proper plant fair with specialist nurseries and the estate's gardens at their spring peak. 🌱 Forest Cathedral Exhibition @messumswest Tisbury, from 14 May Andrew Amondson transforms the 13th-century barn into a living forest of light and sound. A kinetic sculpture of branching limbs and leaves drifts on air currents stirred by visitors, casting shadows with the timbers above. 🌱 Adam Beattie & Fiona Bevan @atthechapel At the Chapel, Bruton, 14 May Adam Beattie, one of the true originals of contemporary folk, is joined by Fiona Bevan, a multi-platinum songwriter with a remarkable solo catalogue of her own. 🌱 Angel Otero: Agua Salada @hauserwirthsomerset Durslade Farm, Bruton, from 2 May The gallery reopens with Otero's UK debut, made largely during his spring residency in Somerset. Stay for lunch at Da Costa or a drink at Roth Bar. 🌱 Sauna & Breathwork @wildshedsauna Dropping Lane, Bruton, 14 May Part of the Bruton Boost: a free 60-minute session with The Wake Up Club to pause, breathe and reset. Sweat it out, slow down, and walk away lighter.

Touch is the oldest of the senses. The first we develop in the womb, and the last to leave us. In the old healing traditions, a hand laid on the shoulder was its own medicine. Communing with the world can take many forms. A handshake at a threshold. A hedge brushed in passing. The weight of someone beside you on a long walk home. This is the thread we follow. Fragrance first, then the formulations that live closer still — washes, creams, and natural perfume to be massaged onto the skin. Each one a small ritual of touch.

In old herb-lore, the plants of spring were gathered for a sense of waking: bitter greens to clear the winter from the blood, fresh leaves pressed for their first oils, citrus peel saved for its lift. Our Seymour fragrance is built in this tradition. Grapefruit and lemongrass at the top, bright as morning. A heart of geranium, clary sage, and lavender — the calming herbs, long kept in the garden for protection. Galbanum, hiba wood, and cypress at the base, green and grounding. Sunlight breaking through cloud over rain-softened fields. The countryside reborn.

May begins with Beltane, the old midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. In ancient folk traditions, communities gathered on hilltops at dusk, ushered their herds towards the summer pasture, and decorated wells with flowers in thanks for water. A moment of protection and of welcome. Somerset is a place that remembers these traditions. The hills around us — Glastonbury Tor, Cadbury Castle, the long barrows on the Mendips — have long been sacred sites. Hawthorn still flowers on cue in the hedgerows around Bruton, carrying its signature scent. This month composes itself in layers: a top note of blossom, a heart of new leaf, a base of warming earth. What was bare in March is now alive at every height. Below, a few of the places we'll be spending time in Somerset this month. We would be so pleased to have you join us. 🌱Angel Otero: Agua Salada @hauserwirthsomerset From 2 May The gallery reopens with Otero's UK debut, made largely during his spring residency in Somerset. As we near Beltane, the season turns. Days lengthen, the air softens, and the land begins to wake. In the old traditions, this was a night of fire. Bonfires were lit on hilltops at dusk to mark the threshold between dormancy and bloom — flames as protection, and a way of carrying light into the warmer months ahead.

Beltane approaches, and with the change in season comes a shift in how we feel. Warmer air on skin. More time spent outside. A gradual return of energy. A beautiful reminder to stay connected to the body, and to the rhythms of the natural world.

There is a wisdom in the old methods. Beeswax warmed for a solid perfume. Plant oils, pressed and poured. Candles made without paraffin, scented only with what the season offers. We find beauty in returning to these ways Natural ingredients. Natural scents. The abundance of the land, kept close to the skin.

At Commune, care for the environment is foundational to everything we do, and our considered approach means creating products that exist in harmony with the Earth. Each year, millions of tonnes of plastic enter our oceans, impacting marine life and ecosystems. The beauty and personal care industry has long relied on single-use packaging, but from the beginning we wanted to take a different path. We chose aluminium across our collection — for our bath and body vessels, travel tubes, and soy and beeswax candle vessels — because it is durable, endlessly recyclable, and designed to remain in circulation for longer. Through our replenishment system, we continue to reduce the need for unnecessary single-use plastic. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

The Voyagers Set was created for movement, but with the same values that guide everything we make. Thoughtfully sized for travel, each formulation is housed in recyclable aluminium tubes: a lighter, more responsible alternative to the disposable plastics. Unlike single-use materials, aluminium can be recycled again and again without losing quality, allowing valuable resources to remain in circulation for longer. It is a material chosen not only for its durability, but for the future it makes possible. Inside, four of our Seymour fragrance essentials accompany your journey: Body Wash, Body Cream, Shampoo, and Conditioner — each designed to evoke connection to nature wherever you may be.

Single-use plastic has long been the beauty industry’s default material, but it is not sustainable. From the very beginning, we wanted to take a different approach. We chose aluminium: safe, infinitely recyclable, and made to last. Our vessels are statement pieces that unite beauty with environmental care.
