Hi-Fi Night School Year Three – Global Studies
Join us 5.15.26 at Common Wave Hi-Fi for a listening session with Osmar Romero of El Marchante featuring Venezuelan sounds, bites, and libations — LINK IN BIO
For our third year of Hi-Fi Night School, we introduce Global Studies, a program exploring music across cultures navigating complexity and change. Through high-fidelity playback and contextual framing, each session creates space for reflection, cultural exchange, and connection.
As always, all proceeds to be donated to local school’s music programs.
Evenings center on deep listening, with selections played in full or meaningful excerpts, followed by storytelling and guided dialogue. Each session is paired with regionally inspired libations and small bites, extending the experience beyond sound.
Session One features Osmar Romero of El Marchante. Raised in Caracas, his work lives at the intersection of music, memory, and cultural preservation. Drawing from an archive of over 130,000 pieces, he will share sounds from Venezuela and the stories that shape them.
We are also honored to have his 89-year-old grandmother, Carmen, preparing a traditional Venezuelan dessert, alongside cocktails by Vanessa and Alisa Catering.
Join us as we begin another year of deep listening and global connection through music.

Common Wave Hi-Fi + Honest Defector Presents - Okonski Live - Link in Bio
Join us April 9, 2026 for a special live session by Okanski as they present selections from Magnolia and Entrance Music.
Okonski is an American jazz trio led by pianist and composer Steve Okonski, known for an intimate, meditative approach to instrumental music. Blending improvisation with subtle groove and rich tonal texture, the group creates atmospheric soundscapes that feel both modern and timeless. Their music leans into restraint and space, where each note carries weight and silence becomes part of the composition.
Closely associated with Colemine Records, the trio features bassist Michael Montgomery and drummer Aaron Frazer—both widely recognized for their work with Durand Jones & The Indications. This shared musical lineage brings a deep sense of pocket and cohesion to Okonski’s sound, grounding its exploratory qualities in a quietly assured rhythmic foundation.
Their debut album Entrance Music unfolds like a slow-moving narrative, drawing from jazz, ambient, and soul traditions without fully settling into any one category, while earlier work Magnolia offers a deeper look into the trio’s origins. Recorded during late-night sessions and shaped through live, improvisational takes, Magnolia captures a raw, emotional immediacy—where melodies emerge organically and the trio’s intuitive interplay guides each piece. Rather than centering on individual tracks, it moves as a cohesive body of work, shifting between quiet introspection and more expansive moments, ultimately laying the foundation for the refined, immersive environments heard in their later recordings.

The Analog Hour: An Evening with OJAS Music - Featuring Michael A. Muller
Join us April 2, 2026 for a special edition of The Analog Hour as we welcome OJAS Music and co-founder Michael A. Muller. The evening centers around Unna—the label’s debut—presented across multiple formats including 1/4” master tape, vinyl, and digital playback, alongside a live musical performance of forthcoming material; offering a deeper look into the project’s evolving sonic landscape.
OJAS Music, founded by Muller and Devon Turnbull, launches with Unna, a collaboration between Muller and Norwegian pianist Otto A. Totland. Released in partnership with The Vinyl Factory, the record was mastered and cut from the original analog tape and issued as a limited edition run of 500 hand-numbered LPs, with additional formats including CD, cassette, and reel-to-reel.
The music is sparse and deeply atmospheric—Totland’s intimate, close-miked piano pairs with Muller’s subtle arrangements across double bass, Mellotron, and Rhodes. Recorded between Norway and LA, Unna reflects a process shaped by a shared instinct toward restraint and space. The title—Norwegian for “away”—speaks both to physical distance and the inward pull of focused listening.
OJAS Music is not built around genre or streaming culture, but around the physical act of listening itself—an ethos drawn from Turnbull’s work in designing listening environments and Muller’s decades-long career as a recording artist and collaborator.
A specially curated system will be assembled for the evening, with craft beers provided by Common Space Brewery.
Space is limited. RSVP required. Link in bio.
