Thank you to @decordova_museum for providing such a beautiful space and co-hosting Comida Casera as an extension of my Holding Water installation (currently on view as part of the Nature Sanctuary exhibition). Thank you to all the participants for creating community around the table, and for sharing your food, stories, and memories with such love and care.   It’s been nearly a decade of hosting Comida Casera events!! ✨ Started in my backyard in 2016, Comida Casera is an ongoing series of meal-sharing and storytelling gatherings honoring the people and places that have formed our sense of home and belonging. If you haven’t joined before and would like to co-host or join a future event, please send me a direct message. Big thanks to co-hosts @sarahmontross and Maddie Nelson!

“I made this apple cake when my kids were very young. It’s a spicy apple cake – cinnamon, cardamom, all spice. One of the reasons I was attracted to it, was because it was an easy food to make and share with neighbors or share in the community. In addition to knowing and being connected to traditions of food, and knowing where food comes from, I had such a strong need to have my daughters experience community when they were young, and have meaningful connection with neighbors because I didn’t have that.” ✨An excerpt from the Recetas de Casa Cookbook, supported by the @uslaforum Charla FUND. A project by @evelynrydz , photos in collaboration with @m.ltaing Recetas de Casa, is a recipe and story exchange honoring the people, places, and food that form our connections to home and belonging. Participants gather to share the dishes they are creating to bring comfort, nourishment, and healing during challenging and uncertain times. @tuftsartgalleries ✨ Join @evelynrydz for a community conversation and collective art-making workshop centered on ancestral foods, cooking, health, home, and belonging. Together, we will experiment with spices, inks, drawing, and printmaking to create a series of images inspired by the people, places, and foods that form our connection to home. Participants will have the opportunity to create in community, exchange prints with guests around the table, share stories from home, and discuss past, present, and future relationships with local and global food sources. 🌱 ✨Register with link in bio. #comidacaseraproject #tuftsuniversity #tuftsuniversityartgallery 📷 Photo by @m.ltaing

Repost from @uslaforum • CHARLA 💬 feature: Evelyn Rydz @evelynrydz Title: Recetas de Casa, a healing recipe exchange from and about home USLAF is excited to share documentation of the artist-generated dialogues created by the recipients of the inaugural round of CHARLA Fund artist grants. CHARLA is the first of three project categories in USLAF’s Mazorca Initiative, launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing racism, xenophobia, and state-sanctioned violence impacting communities of color. Mazorca is generously funded by the Ford Foundation @fordfoundation . Visit the link in our bio for additional information and to see full documentation of this and other CHARLAs, and stay tuned for future posts showcasing CHARLA recipients! Description: In this multi-generational event, participants exchange recipes and stories about the people, places, and food that form their connections to home. Participants gather online to share the dishes they are creating to bring comfort, nourishment, and healing during these challenging and uncertain times. Recipes and excerpts of stories are compiled into a digital cookbook and shared with all participants. Repost from @j.houton • Remember dinner parties? Evelyn Rydz has elevated them to an art form. Guests at her @comidacaseraproject events bring a dish inspired by a woman who gives them a sense of home and share the story behind it. This isn't standard small talk. Rydz recognizes that food can be a portal to the past, a conduit of culture, an expression of love. Over the past year, she's pivoted to hosting healing recipe exchanges online, and I got to learn about these projects and many other aspects of her fascinating artistic practice for a feature in @bostonartreview .
