That’s a wrap on Thought Bubble 2025 for me! Had two great interviews, hosted my very first panel - on crime comics, of course - met some legendary creatives and had such a great time it felt like a dream. Cannot thank everyone enough! So grateful for all of the support!

That’s a wrap on Day 1 of Thought Bubble! Mainly spent today mingling and chatting with the lovely folks of the UK comics scene, and had a wonderful time. I’m always astonished by the incredible talent packed into this convention and how friendly everyone is, so thank you all for a great day!

Sometimes the craziest and strangest things happen in life when you least expect them. Things like me running into Josh Homme on the train up north… to go see Queens of the Stone Age (my favorite band, of which he is the frontman) on my birthday. I’m pretty speechless. He was a total class act as well, wished my happy birthday and hoped I enjoy the show. Holy shit!

For my latest review over at The Beat, I talked about OBSESSION, a true classic in the making and one of the best horror films of the decade yet. Brilliantly crafted and performed, exploring important and emotionally challenging material, and nauseatingly uneasy the whole time, it’s a must see for sure. Check it out! icsbeat.com/horror-beat-obsession-classic/

With the second season of the anime finally out, i’ve been revisiting DOROHEDORO, finally checking out the manga for the first time. The artwork is stunning, the story is well and truly unhinged, and Hayashida has some of the best character designs and personality sensibilities in the medium. So good.

For my newest review over at The Beat, I discussed HOKUM, Damian McCarthy’s latest film, a wonderfully creepy and oddly sincere folk horror that left me endeared and impressed despite some of its flaws. Check it out! icsbeat.com/horror-beat-tension-and-sincere-creepiness-in-hokum/

Had a lot of fun with an activity today run by the University of Brighton Design Archives, tracing over a picture from their archives and writing a couple stanzas of our response to it. I ended up going mainly on instinct and was quite pleasantly surprised at the end result so I decided to share it here. I usually don’t share much of my creative work on here but this is an exception, I suppose.

Hey everyone! For my latest review over at The Beat, I wrote about LEE CRONIN’s THE MUMMY, a flawed but great film that is grotesque and powerful if held back by a bloated runtime. Check it out! icsbeat.com/horror-beat-the-mummy-is-thrilling-grotesque-and-flawed/

My experience with THE WITCHING HOUR was an interesting one. The story is too dense to process much of the time but it also has some really beautiful moments to it and some quite fascinating concepts, and when paired with some of the most gorgeous and lush artwork of Chris Bachalo’s career, it becomes quite compelling inspite of those flaws. Glad this got reprinted for the stunning artwork alone.
