Paul Pope ( @comicsdestroyer ) es un artista al que, como suele decirse, la fama le precede. Y doy buena fe de ello como recién aterrizado en el mundo del cómic. Había escuchado/leído tantas referencias a su nombre y me había cruzado con tantas obras suyas que, para cuando lo hice, me parecía increíble no haberme parado antes a investigar sobre su trayectoria y trabajos. Porque es una realidad que, cuando te cruzas con una obra suya, es imposible no pararse a mirar. ¿Cómo pasó? Pura casualidad, por aprovechar los gastos de envío de un pedido a Forbidden Planet UK. La idea era hacerme con una anunciada nueva publicación de su famoso cómic THB, pero al buscar por autor descubrí este libro y me pareció ideal como introducción al artista. Paul Pope, autodenominado como “Comics Destroyer” como declaración a su intención de transgredir las fronteras de lo que en su momento era la escena del cómic (hablamos de los 90), es de esos artistas que destacan por su estilo propio, creado a base de fusionar estéticas. Un estilo que llamó la atención del público más allá del cómic y que se tradujo en multitud de premios, contratos con las grandes firmas del mundo del cómic y trabajos publicitarios para eventos y marcas archiconocidas. Por no hablar de cómo ha influenciado a otros muchos artistas. El libro que veis, publicado por @boom_studios poco antes de hacerme con él (2025), nos permite realizar un recorrido por su prolífica carrera hasta 2024. Pudiendo disfrutar gracias a su gran formato y buen gramaje de papel de su maravilloso contenido, que incluye incluso trabajos sin publicar. Un libro muy esperado tras su previo “PULP HOPE” de 2007, que era ya muy difícil de conseguir (tomad nota para que no os pase con éste). Próxima parada: hacerme con algunos de sus cómics, aprovechando que los amigos de @moztros van a publicar algunos en España en breve 🙌🏻 ¡Espero que os guste!
