Before they reached space travel, Smircian understanding of life's mysteries was quite similar to our own: an imaginative blend of observable science, folklore & superstitions passed down from ancestors.
Even as the first Smircs began lifting off Planet Smircia & into the great unknown of the universe, these familiar mythologies of ancient titans and demons persisted. Familiar proverbs to make sense of the celestial randomness in their heroic journeys & sometimes tragic fates.
One of the deepest held Smircian myths is that of Apollýnai, "The Destroyer". A demon reincarnate who brings upon the ruinous end to all Smircian life by opening a portal to pure evil. So when Smirc 71 became the first Smirc to disappear into a black hole, it was believed to have perished into an evil portal. Centuries later, this Smirc mysteriously returned. It was mutated, floating & with strange silver razors that shifted around like metallic wings. It's silent & dark presence was unlike anything Smircians had seen before. Children screamed & citizens across Smircia cried apocalyptic scripture, thinking the end was nigh.
It's still not entirely known what happened to this Smirc on the other side of that black hole. Current Smirc scientists believe that it had encountered a mysterious entity, who transmuted the very biology of this Smirc. The mutation was so deep that its bones are now made of a metallic alloy & it gained an special ability now known as "Frameshift". Though Smircia did not perish with the reappearance of Smirc 71, dark legends are still whispered. Especially when tales emerge of what this Smirc is capable of on the battlefield. Gruesome recollections of enemies so biologically mutilated that indeed, they can make children cry.
So it's not surprising that all young Smircians are taught not to eat too much Smĩzzęd Chęęz snacks. Or else Apollýnai will show up when they sleep & fill their mouths with their own eye balls 👁🗨
