Absolutely top tier Deakins level camera work on this disco-y vibe for one of my oldest musical compatriots @babybantug . Yeah the clap sample is too loud but who even cares? We’re trying to make the people dance out here.
Been working on trying to get more comfortable and confident with my raw, naked, unprocessed drum sounds lately. Relying less on plugins and more on the actual sources the microphones are capturing. Here are some raw sounds from a remote session this past week.
I’ve known @katie_reagan_ for the better part of 20 years. She’s always been one of those people that is constantly writing and creating and being great at both of them. Back in 2010, we had a plan to make a record together and then we both moved away from home. Her to Colorado, me to Nashville. Fast forward fourteen years and we picked that conversation back up and started working on “Goodbyes” last November. We spent the last year working late nights, early mornings, recording in studios and living rooms, sorting through mixes and masters and continuing a musical friendship that began when we were teenagers leading worship with an acoustic guitar and a djembe (I know I know). I could not be more proud of her and of the crew that made this project a reality.

Verse 1 into Chorus 1 of a recent tune.
This track brought to you by the cheapest chopsticks from @worldmarket , my daily carry @owala water bottle and my favorite snare muffling “donut” that I made in 2013 because I was too broke to buy a real one.
Rose McKenzie Thomas came into the world early Friday morning. Her entrance was fast and furious and beautiful. Her mother, sister and I are head over heels for her.
This Acrolite belonged to my uncle and was the first snare drum that I ever played when I started drumming. Still absolutely crushes to this day. This is some recent tracking from a new spot in town (Parker House Studios) and I am pumped to have them in Amarillo. Excellent vibe. Great space. Give them a look:
I’ve had the idea in my head for years to use chopped and flipped samples in a live music setting. Not until I started creating these videos did it finally make sense. Do you think a #sampleflip can work in a band setting? Thanks to the incredible @coltonthomas for making this song a thousand percent better with his playing. #livemusic #liveband #drummer #drums #bassplayer #guitarist #producer #sampling
We started this record in January of 2023. I was a brand new parent and, somehow, convinced @aaronareyes to record some of the songs he had written over the years and collect them into an album. This project spanned 2 and a half years, hours and hours of recording, 7 songs that turned into 6 songs that turned into 5 songs and so many moments of growth, triumph, failure and perseverance. Aaron is a once in a generation songwriter and human and helping him interpret these songs was the honor of a lifetime. The songs on this record are a perfect distillation of the human experience. Life and love and grief and past regrets and future hope. So many incredible people put their blood, sweat and tears into this record and it is truly felt in every note.
