This year for my birthday I wanted to celebrate it by doing what I love most which is- story telling. If you know me you’ll know I’m black, a woman, an African and South African before anything. So this year I wanted to turn the @choirafrica “African Dream” into makeup looks.
Back then the African dream meant something totally different but for me it’s to live my wildest and unattainable dreams. I don’t know how but one day I will look back at this moment and say “we did it kid”. Thank you for all the birthday wishes, thank you for your continuous support. Thank you for walking this journey with me- I, Simphiwe am beyond grateful to have 162 000 of you to call family.

I was in a dark place for a while that I honestly forgot what joy felt like. Glory to the Most High for keeping His promise. Three years ago, I posted this Africa Day look with the @choirafrica cover of ‘African Dream’ playing in the background… and somehow, that little dream of mine travelled further than I could have ever imagined. 🌍
Looking back, I don’t think the video went viral because of makeup alone. I think people saw love. Love for Africa- love for our stories. Love for our skin, our languages, our rhythm, our softness, our strength.
My ultimate African dream has always been simple:
to tell African stories through African eyes.
To paint beauty in the colours I grew up surrounded by.
To remind us that our cultures, our features, our traditions and our people have always been worthy of being seen as art.
And maybe one day, the African dream is a continent where we are all fully free to exist, create, love and dream loudly without limitation.
Until then, I’ll keep creating. One brush stroke at a time. 🤍
