Today was brutal. Thankfully this was like my 200th rodeo, so I had everything locked down and nothing got soaked or destroyed. But I tore down the second we had thunder and lightning. Joke's on me though, because the rest of the morning totally cleared out— even though the radar said more was coming. Sigh. This business can be so gnarly sometimes. Losing a market day literally means the difference between paying my bills or not. So much of my week to week income is tied to just 3 or 4 hours on a single day. I wouldn't have even gone out at all if I knew storms like that were coming in; the forecast showed storms maybe popping up around 10:30— so I didn't want to miss out on a good half of the show in case the storms held off a bit. I literally was open for 20 minutes before a huge storm rolled through that wasn't even on the radar. (So glad all of our weather services got their federal funding stripped!) And to top it all off, someone stole a clay friend from my booth while I was busy scuttling around trying to get my tent walls down before the rain came in! Like, seriously? Hopefully karma does it's thing on that one. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna spend the rest of the day pouting and trying to scrounge up whatever rejuvenation that I can. Not every day is a winner in this biz, lol. See you tomorrow at a hopefully much less rainy @germanvillagemakersmarket , with freshly laundered tablecloths! 😩✨ And— free shipping through EOD so I can scrounge up whatever I can to make up from today's big loss.
