Did you know there is a difference between wood engravings and wood cuts (and then wood carvings)?? 🪵
The hard woods used to make wood engraving blocks are type-high (.918”, the height of metal type) and are cut across the grain rather than parallel to it like wood cuts. These durable end-grain blocks allow for extensive detail.
And the tools used for wood engraving are gravers (or burins) that are different than the gouge tools used for wood cuts.

Colleen is an elected member of the Society of Wood Engravers (UK) and serves as Secretary and Exhibitions Officer for Wood Engravers’ Network (USA) and as a board member of North Bay Letterpress Arts!

"Corn Maiden Visits Three Sisters" received an Honorable Mention prize in the 22nd Mini Print International Exhibition! The exhibit of small prints in 6"x6" frames just finished in Ithaca, New York and is moving on to the Menino Arts Center in Boston.
