New on Buildofy. Debris Block House Published in 10 Homes Bengaluru - A Coffee Table Book. The Debris Block House in Bengaluru is a masterful residence that breathes life into reclaimed materials. Addressing the ecological liability of urban waste, the home was constructed using sundried mud-concrete blocks synthesized from the debris of a 50-year-old house formerly on the site. The facade, defined by exposed masonry and porous jali screens, is softened by integrated planters that allow the building to blend into the lush foliage. Inside, the layout centers on a light-filled atrium and a sculptural staircase beneath strategic skylights. While the ground floor features a fluid concrete open plan that merges with the landscape through sliding glass, the upper levels provide intimate family zones linked by a bridge. This project provides a scientific roadmap for circular architecture, proving that construction waste is a celebrated resource capable of creating high-fidelity, responsible spaces that honor a site's history. Debris Block House by Collective Project Nestled within a quiet yet densely packed residential neighborhood, this corner site presented a distinct challenge in both layout design and construction logistics. With minimal road frontage, the intent was to let the home blend seamlessly into its surroundings through lush planting a deliberate contrast to the neighboring plastered and painted facades. Built almost to the maximum permissible footprint on its 3,000 sqft plot, the design pulls back thoughtfully on one side to preserve a magnificent mango tree. To make up for the limited ground-level garden, generous planters are woven into every floor, introducing greenery throughout the vertical volume of the home. Talaricheruvu Rural School by CollectiveProject Set in rural Andhra Pradesh—a hot, arid region of Southern India—the project reimagines a fifteen-year-old “L”-shaped school building into a vibrant and empowering learning environment for the children of cement factory workers. Though structurally sound, the building sat neglected at the far corner of a barren two-acre site, offering little shade apart from a handful of trees along the boundary where students crowded to escape the harsh afternoon sun. Inside, the conditions were equally challenging. The spaces, poorly lit and inadequately ventilated, were carved into sixteen oversized classrooms, a shared library–cum–faculty room, and two science labs. Essential facilities such as bathrooms were located at a considerable distance, accessible only by a winding path that posed difficulties for the children. How can existing buildings be made more climate-sensitive? Designed by @collectiveproject , Talaricheruvu Rural School in Andhra Pradesh, India, is a 15-year-old building retrofitted for better performance in a warm climate. One of the key interventions is the set of expansive bamboo canopies, made out of 12,000 locally sourced bamboo poles, that now shades the school and the site around it. These canopies provide much-needed respite from the region’s hot summers, when peak temperatures can easily rise above 40° C. Check out the video for more. 📸: @benhoskingphotographer , @vivekeadara 📹: Vivek Eadara #Ecogradia #Sustainability #SustainableArchitecture #PassiveDesign #EenergyEfficiency #SchoolDesign #EducationalDesign #BuildingPerformance

Lake House by Collective Project The Lakehouse is a private sanctuary thoughtfully designed as both an entertainment haven and an escape from the bustle of urban life. Nestled on a steep, rocky terrain overlooking Hyderabad’s Durgam Cheruvu Lake, the residence offers a rare sense of seclusion while being centrally located within the city. Perched above the ground to preserve the natural contours of the land, the Lakehouse embraces rather than alters its topography—offering sweeping views of the tranquil lake, the adjacent nature preserve, and the dynamic skyline of the HiTec City tech park in the distance. In contrast to the prevailing architectural trend in Hyderabad of flattening and clearing sites, this retreat floats gently above the landscape, making the untouched terrain an integral and celebrated part of the spatial experience. Brick House by Collective Project Located in a major tech suburb of Bangalore—once open farmland just 15 years ago—this residence offers a quiet retreat for a young family of five amidst a rapidly densifying and unplanned neighborhood. Built on the foundations of a modest brick house that no longer met the family’s needs, the new design evolves from the existing palette and angled plinth, weaving a personal narrative through open, interconnected spaces. Challenging conventional notions of load-bearing brick construction, the design employs hand-moulded table bricks with their natural imperfections, celebrating the tactile and expressive quality of the material. The interplay between traditional construction techniques and contemporary forms is softened through the use of porous jaali screens and the ever-shifting shadows cast by partially projecting brick elements—blurring the lines between structure, light, and texture.
