Emil SchovĂĄnek, also known as Jan Emil, was born on September 10, 1885 in Prague. He was a Czech academic painter who became famous for his portraits, genre paintings, nudes, flower still lifes and seascapes, which he studied during his frequent stays on the Adriatic. He began his career as a painter by studying at the Prague Academy of Painting from 1903 to 1909 under the guidance of professors V. Bukovac and V. Hynais. For his artistic achievements, he received the HlĂĄvka study scholarship and a travel scholarship, which allowed him to spend time studying in Yugoslavia and Italy.
Emil SchovĂĄnek was not only dedicated to painting, but also to activities in artistic circles. From 1911 he was a member of the Union of Fine Artists in Prague, where he gradually held the positions of vice-chairman and later chairman. In 1915 he was awarded the KaĆka Foundation Prize, and a year later he received the annual prize of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Emil SchovĂĄnek died on July 11, 1947 in Prague. His artistic legacy includes works that are now part of the collections of the Karlovy Vary Museum and other galleries.
