NOTE: Meatloaf is alive and well, but this post is to jinx the alternative. I wrote this about Loaf at 1:19am this morning after his third trip to the ER in a week. “I write this not knowing how much longer I have with my boy. It’s been hard. Really hard. I can’t remember the last time I’ve cried. Meatloaf is now known by everyone at the Vet ER. Not the kind of popularity you want. The poor fella is going through hell, and it breaks my heart. For the first ER visit, at 4am while we awaited an opening, I laid on my back with him on the parking lot pavement for an hour. The stars were bright that night. Meatloaf panted faintly next to me, his paw in my hand where he usually puts it. I won’t forget that. Meatloaf is so funny. I mean… his name is Meatloaf. He’s a big dog in an even bigger world and is scared of everything. Noises, new people, handheld vacuum, you name it. When we host parties, you can typically find him sitting at the top of the stairs, tucked away from the chaos but still close enough to be a part of it. I often join him. The saying goes that all dogs go to heaven, but I think all dogs ARE heaven, and they take a piece with them when they leave us. I would prefer to not lose my piece so soon. I think Loaf is going to be okay. I’m willing it into existence. He’s lying on the floor next to me with his shaved arm and belly, and his white fur dyed green from the vets trying to clean him. He’s smiling. I write this trying to jinx that I won’t have to post it for worse reasons. Love my boy.“

Swipe to see me progressively fade into the night, overpowered by the undying love of the newlywed Faulkners. Cheers to friendship and love

I’ve always had a hard time sitting still, and I like side projects. Silk & Iron started the day after the Kentucky Derby. I was on the couch, pretty hungover, watching Scottie Scheffler tie the scoring record when the name popped into my head. It mixed the polished chaos of the Derby with the tradition and grit of golf. It stuck. It’s a clothing and lifestyle brand born from the things I love: golf, the Derby, bourbon, design, good storytelling, and the feeling of something built to last. The goal is to build a community of people who appreciate the good stuff: craftsmanship, conversation, a well-worn jacket, and a long round that ends at the bar. Luckily my partners @joshuamcooksey and @beck_odaniel saw this vision as well and were willing to help build this out. Our first full launch comes next spring, but we’re starting to grow the idea with small releases like these cotton hats, plus plenty of insights, cocktails, and golf updates through our email list. Join the club.

It’s not a wedding without the boys taking a quick break to watch Tavon Austin’s mixtape in the green room
