What better way to welcome 2026 then by posting some work from 2023?
I’m hoping to catch up on a big backlog of work I’ve done recently (and not so recently) and figured this was a great place to start. Here is one of my favourite shots I animated for the film Gnawer of Rocks, produced by @stopmotiondept .
We used a large hand cranked conveyor belt table to create the illusion of the creature being pulled along the ground. I had an assortment of rocks and terrain pieces that would fall of one end of the table, which I’d then reset with new placement on the opposite end to create the illusion of a vast space.
The monster also had retro reflective tape in the eyes to give it that eery glow effect. Shoutout to @kjelltastic for this excellent compositing and to @animationbyakash for animating the last second or so of this so I could catch a flight!

Had some fun making these little charms from Hollow knight as a birthday gift for a friend last week. These were sculpted using a mix of apoxie clay and sculpy firm, molded in silicone, and cast in resin.
Most of the coloring comes from dying the resin itself, as well as mica powder being coated selectively on the inside of the molds. I then used some dry and wet brushing to mimic the shading of the in-game artwork.
The case is a repurposed old eye glasses case.

I don’t always use like using live action reference, but for very physical actions it’s certainly helpful. You can see a little tweak I made by having the girl take a small step back once the sisters settle, this was done on the fly once I realized that hand wouldn’t be able to reach the girl where she landed. I also took extra care to make sure the light caught the hand just right, so as not to lose it in the darkness of the hole.

Here’s a behind the scenes look at our setup for the shot I posted earlier this week from the film “Gnawer of Rocks” (coming to Sundance!), lit and concocted by our DP and animation director @derushie . The table was one big conveyor belt made of fabric, and dressed with loose rocks and dirt that I was then able to reposition at the back as they fell off the front.
You can also see the rigging setup, which needed to be able to lift and reposition the creature so that it would not get dragged along the table.
Finally, if you swipe to the right, the two stills showcase our two lighting setups which we captured on separate exposures. The compositing team @kjelltastic@bwithbable then combined the exposures, pulling just the reflection of the eyes and adding it to our master exposure. They also used a third exposure (not pictured) that exclusively illuminated the sky in order to isolate it and add in the distant background you see in the final shot ( this process is called “Front light/Backlight “

Back in 2023 I got to work on this animated nightmare sequence for the film “Eye for an Eye” at @stopmotiondept ,
The visual style of this roughly one minute sequence has to be one of my favourites I’ve ever worked in. Where most of the projects I’d been animating on pushed for smooth and fluid motion, @winstonhacking and @derushie encouraged a much rougher style where we intentionally broke arcs and embraced more erratic spacing and timing.
This shot in particular was especially cool, as Winston and our puppet fabricator @sarahelizaball developed this method of printing on water soluable paper, so we could show this boys skin decaying as time passed by. We then shot the same camera move in reverse and trimmed back all the plants, so we could sell this Timelapse effect.
